On April 12th & 13th April, School of Life Sciences has organized its 3rd edition of Current Trends in Biotechnology Conference. Dr. Mariam Matar Founder and Chairperson of UAE Genetic Disease Association (UAEGDA) Dubai, UAE was Chief Guest of the conference and she delivered a lecture entitled “Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics: Viewpoints on the Current Status and Applications in Medical Research and Practice”. Also attended by Ms. Ranya Saadawi, Senior Manager EXPO LIVE Team, EXPO2020 where delivered a talk on “Innovations that Matter”. Also attended by several UAS Universities.

The first year students of the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs in the School of Life Sciences visited Prime Hospital, Dubai for an educational industry trip on March 12, 2017. The field trip was organized to educate the students about latest biotechnology product and solutions in an industrial setting where they learnt about various advance diagnostic and therapeutic instruments, their operation and usage. They interacted with the doctors and learned the science behind the technologies. The students also received a short training in life-saving CPR method. The trip was organized by Dr. Mohammad Zeeshan Ansari, Assistant Professor, School of Life Sciences, Manipal University Dubai and he sincerely thanks Mr. Tanweer and his team from Prime Hospital who were very meticulous and supportive during the visit.

Students of BSc & MSc programs visited the Medlab, Dubai. Medlab is one of the world’s largest laboratory exhibition and congress and is taking place from 6-9 February 2017 at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre, Dubai. UAE. Dr. Faheem SM and Dr. Zeeshan Ansari supervised the educational trip.

School Life Sciences organized a Workshop on DNA for 12th Grade Biology students Delhi Private School, Sharjah on 8th December 2016 at . More than 65 students participated in the Workshop and learnt about the DNA Isolation and Gel Electrophoresis technique under supervision of Dr. Naushad Rais.

National Measles Vaccination Campaign Organized @ Manipal University Dubai

In order to protect the UAE community against Measles, Mumps & Rubella, Ministry of Health UAE, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Health Authority, Abu Dhabi (HAAD) jointly organized the National Measles Campaign to eradicate the diseases from the country at Manipal University Dubai on 20th & 21st November, 2016. The vaccination was successfully administered to 768 students of Manipal University, Dubai. The campaign was coordinated by Ms. Joyeeta Bhattacharya (Student Service Officer) and faculty (Dr. Hussaina Banu) and student volunteers of the School of Life Sciences.

Manipal University, Dubai Campus endeavors to stimulate positive attitudes towards science and technology by promoting the development of a knowledge-based society in UAE. The event MANIPAL YOUNG INNOVATORS 2016 was jointly organized by School of Life Sciences and School of Engineering & IT on 16th November, 2016 at Manipal University Dubai was highly successful event in which 160 students (from 11 & 12 Grades) across various schools of UAE exhibited their scientific talents. The team from Indian International School, Sharjah won the first prize under Engineering category, whereas the team Gulf Indian High School, Dubai won the first prize under Life Science category.
