The following information contains the official responses of DMD Eco World to questions from Forbes, in relation to our distinction with second place in the “Green Company” category

1) What is briefly the history of your business?

DMD ECO WORLD emerged as a response to the environmental paradox of our time: everyday “conveniences” create enormous waste. Besides plastic, products made of laminated and coated paper are becoming an increasing problem – they look sustainable, but are often non-recyclable and become mixed waste. The company builds on many years of experience in advertising and marketing and makes a fully informed strategic decision to direct the business toward a socially significant cause – reducing waste in the name of human health. We started with a clear mission: to accelerate the replacement of conventional plastic and laminated paper products with compostable solutions that work within the real infrastructure for separate collection of bio-waste. Today we are developing an international commercial network in the EU and partnerships with municipalities, chains and institutions, implementing proven models such as that of Milan. We develop solutions for retail, industry, municipalities, events and households – bags, sacks, packaging and innovative materials such as Biocartex: a 100% compostable alternative to coated paper. Our goal is simple and measurable: less waste, a cleaner environment and a real contribution in favor of human health.

2) What is your target market and what are the unique characteristics?

The target market of DMD ECO WORLD includes all users of single-use consumables and packaging in the EU – retail, HoReCa, industrial clients, municipalities, public systems and waste operators, as well as the agricultural sector. We offer checkout bags, bags for bulk foods, food packaging, industrial packaging and films, as well as bags and sacks for separate collection of organic food waste. We also work on individual projects – with different sizes, thicknesses and printing/personalization according to client needs.
Our uniqueness is “packaging that does not create waste”: the products are made from plant starches and are designed to degrade through microorganisms without forming microplastics, in line with the latest EU Regulation on packaging and packaging waste (PPWR). They are certified with the highest class of certificates for food contact and for home and industrial composting (OK compost HOME and OK compost INDUSTRIAL), so that the bag can be disposed of with bio-waste and transformed into biofertilizer and biogas/biomethane. Seedling guarantees non-toxicity of the compost. Biocartex is a 100% compostable alternative to coated paper. We operate in line with Directive (EU) 2019/904 and standard EN 13432.

3) What are your business goals and how do you plan to achieve them?

The goal of DMD ECO WORLD is to accelerate the transition to compostable materials that reduce plastic and paper waste in everyday life,
business and public systems – in favor of human health. We achieve this through three parallel directions:
(1) building a strong distribution network in the EU to turn compostable consumables into a standard;
(2) accelerated expansion of the portfolio into more segments of single-use packaging and industrial packaging;
(3) implementation of working models for bio-waste management with compostable bags and sacks that improve the quality of the organic fraction and unlock the recycling of the remaining streams.
We are a practical partner in connecting separate collection systems with the most modern anaerobic installations – so that bio-waste becomes a real resource: biofertilizer and biogas/biomethane. We operate in line with EU circular economy regulations and measure progress through: volumes of replaced conventional materials, growth of separately collected bio-waste and reduction of contamination. 2026 will be a decisive year for scaling these solutions in Europe. Our goal is clear: waste should become energy and resource, not a problem.

4) Why do you consider your business successful and which factors distinguish you?
We consider our business successful because we turn green policies into real and measurable impact – less waste, cleaner streams and more efficient systems, with direct benefit to human health. We differentiate ourselves from the competition through four key factors:

Uncompromising quality and control – we guarantee verifiable 100% compostability and clean composition, without “compromise” mixtures and additives found on the market.Highest level of certification – we work with standards and certifications that prove safety and compostability in real conditions (home and industrial).System model, not just product – we combine product + implementation + clear instructions for use, so that solutions work sustainably in municipalities, retail and industry.Innovation and trust – we have our own development center, develop new materials and applications, and innovations such as BioMulching receive international recognition with a nomination for a gold medal at an exhibition in Madrid. An advantage is also our network of local representatives in each country, who speak the local language and ensure fast and accurate communication.
Our success comes from the combination “cause + execution”: sustainability transformed into a working market model.

5) Why have green policies become your cause

Green policies have become our cause because for us they are the most long-term investment in human health. We see the direct connection between waste, pollution and quality of life. Plastic does not disappear – it breaks down into microplastics and enters soil, water and the food chain. In addition, improper management of bio-waste leads to loss of resources and harmful emissions.
Our work has two faces: social mission and business model.
The social mission is clear – to reduce the plastic burden in everyday life and support communities to transition to cleaner and healthier practices through real, accessible compostable solutions. When we talk about sustainability, we talk about the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food that reaches our children.
European policy supports this direction. EU directives and regulations aim to prevent and reduce the impact of plastic products on the environment and human health and to accelerate the transition to a circular economy and innovative models. We turn these goals into practical actions – through products and implementation in real systems: municipalities, chains, events and citizens.
Our cause is to make sustainability “easy to choose”: instead of people being experts, they receive ready solutions. We believe that the success of green policies is measured not by declarations but by results – less plastic, less pollution, better separate collection and higher quality of life.
Today there are already serious signals and studies showing how close the microplastics problem is to humans – widely cited estimates compare the amount people may ingest to the size of a “credit card” on a weekly basis. Even this thought changes the perspective: green policies are not a “fashion”, but protection of health and prevention of future risks.
In recent years we also see a paradox related to paper: it is often assumed to be “ecological” by default, but its sustainability depends on the entire life cycle – from destruction of trees and clean water to the creation of bulky waste. In addition, with paper products there is a risk that substances from coatings and additives migrate into food – another reason sustainable solutions must be not only “visually” but demonstrably safe and working.
An additional signal also comes from the European Commission: the current framework for a competitive and sustainable bioeconomy emphasizes replacing fossil-based materials, accelerating innovation and building markets for bio-based solutions that support the circular economy and climate goals.
For us this is not a trend, but a responsibility. “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors – we borrow it from our children.” What we do today determines the health and quality of life of the next generation.

6) What is the efficiency your company brings to achieving climate goals through renewable energy sources, participation and support of the circular economy, use of sustainably sourced materials, and creation of innovative eco products?
The efficiency of DMD ECO WORLD is measured through our real participation in the circular economy and the reduction of waste at the source – where it is decided whether waste will become a resource or remain a problem for landfill and incineration. Our compostable bags, sacks and packaging support separate collection of bio-waste and improve the quality of the organic fraction by limiting contamination from plastic and hard-to-manage materials. This is a key condition for bio-waste to be utilized efficiently and safely.
Renewable energy sources: With proper separate collection, bio-waste can be treated in anaerobic installations and converted into biogas/biomethane, as well as high-quality biofertilizer (digestate). Thus waste becomes energy and a resource for soils instead of generating emissions through landfilling. If Bulgaria separately collected its bio-waste (about 845,000 tons annually), the country would produce over 64 million m³ of biomethane annually – energy sufficient for approximately 1.2 billion kilometers of driving by a methane (CNG) vehicle.
Circular economy: When food waste is separated correctly, the remaining fractions (paper, plastic, glass, metal) remain significantly cleaner and become truly recyclable. This reduces residual waste and management costs and increases the share of resources returned to the economy.
Sustainably sourced materials and practical effect: We work with materials from renewable sources. Our main material BioCarten is a “breathable” compostable material with which we replace nylon bags, sacks and packaging. When packaging fresh fruits and vegetables, BioCarten supports natural air exchange and reduces condensation, keeping products fresh longer. This has a direct climate effect: less spoiled food – less food waste and lower emissions throughout the chain.
In Europe microplastics in soils are a growing problem, and plastic mulching is among the proven sources. Therefore we develop compostable mulching, which performs its function during the season and then is plowed directly into the soil. The solution meets applicable European requirements and can be managed as fertilizer/soil improver with the corresponding CE marking.
Packaging innovation: BioCARTEX is a monomaterial that replaces coated paper and is compatible with bio-waste management – it becomes not waste, but a resource.
Measurable results: In the last year alone we delivered over 300 tons of compostable bags and sacks in five markets (Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom and Poland), which means approximately 600 tons of saved CO₂e emissions (about 3.3 million km driven by a passenger car). We measure progress through KPI: volumes of replaced conventional materials, growth of separately collected bio-waste and reduction of contamination in the organic fraction. For us sustainable materials are not an alternative – they are the new industrial standard that makes the circular economy possible.

7) How does your business help accelerate the transition to a sustainable economy and society?
DMD ECO WORLD accelerates the transition to a sustainable economy and society through its core activity – production and implementation of compostable consumables: bags, sacks, packaging and solutions for separate collection. Thus we turn the circular economy into a working practice in retail, HoReCa, public spaces, event and sports facilities and municipal systems.
At the heart of the problem are food (wet) wastes. When mixed, they contaminate all fractions and turn them into “waste for landfill or incineration”. When separated correctly, plastic, paper, glass and metal remain significantly cleaner and become truly recyclable. Compostable sacks are the most practical solution for municipalities because they ensure hygienic collection and direct feeding into biological treatment without additional contamination.
Our strategic focus is anaerobic digestion – converting bio-waste into biogas/biomethane and biofertilizer (digestate). We are narrow specialists in food waste management with long-term practice in Italy and work with municipalities and companies building and operating anaerobic installations. Bulgaria is just developing this sector and our experience can be key for implementing modern solutions from the very beginning.
Our results are measurable: in the last year we delivered over 300 tons of compostable bags and sacks in five markets – Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, United Kingdom and Poland, which means approximately 600 tons saved CO₂e emissions (about 3.3 million km driven by a passenger car). At municipal level we are a main supplier of green waste sacks for Kazanlak and Pomorie, with Pomorie being a leading example with a pilot project for separate collection and about 10% residual mixed waste according to local assessment.
In the commercial sector we have long been a main supplier of SoPharmacy, Mr. Bricolage, eBag, Grab & Go and Praktiker, as well as many bakeries, butcher shops, pharmacies and small retail outlets. We work in campaigns with bTV (“Let’s Clean Bulgaria Together”) and with Fantastico in separate collection initiatives – because sustainability is also a public habit.
Growing interest from various sectors confirms that compostable solutions are already a real market standard. We have our own development center and cover over 82% of single-use plastic applications with compostable substitutes. 2026 is a breakthrough year for scaling – with the goal of strong distribution and active partnerships in Bulgaria, Austria, Greece, Germany, Spain and France.
Landfilling and incineration destroy resources, while anaerobic installations turn bio-waste into biomethane and biofertilizer – energy independence, cleaner environment and direct protection of human health. Our goal is clear: to put an end to landfilling and incineration, because they turn resource into toxic health risk. Therefore we replace materials at the very beginning of the life cycle – with products of renewable plant origin, not fossil sources. This makes our solutions low-carbon and truly sustainable.
