During the June heatwave in Delft, the Netherlands, the binder in asphalt softened by the extreme heat and worked its way into the grooved rails, bringing tram services to a halt.
RailRestore together with Plasser & Theurer responded within one day with high-pressure waterjet cleaning, treating 13 track-kilometres across five shifts. The process removed the contamination without chemicals, heat or manual scratching, while leaving the rail and embedded track construction intact. After inspection and a successful test run by HTM, the track was released and tram service resumed shortly afterwards.
