I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jess, Tom and on another unique passive solar home in Tarcoola Beach. A blend of timber frame, reverse brick veneer and double brick to place thermal mass just where it’s most useful. Ignore the photoshopped lawn and imagine raised veggie beds and native waterwise landscaping 😉.

Three 10 star homes in one suburb! This is the third NatHERS 10 star design to be built in Beachlands, all by David O’Meara Designs. The owners can look forward to being naturally warm in winter and cool in summer in this climate responsive design using passive solar principles. You can see the burnished concrete slab soaking up the winter sun to keep the house nice and toasty through these chilly nights. With a couple more houses finally being completed I look forward to sharing them with you soon. Professional photos coming soon too 😊

Progress in beautiful Boyup Brook. I’m very much looking forward to a site visit on this reverse brick veneer design making the most of amazing creek, granite outcrop views and connection to the dam.

It was a privilege to collaborate with the clients to bring their ideas to fruition in such an inspiring landscape. Thanks for the updates and pics Jan and Vern, see you down there soon.

Reclaimed materials not only save resources but add unique character to a home. All the timber and bricks shown here where sourced locally from Batavia Timber & Salvage, dressed by local joiner Mick Bowdler and constructed by local builder Craig Spence. There happened to be some painted bricks amongst the pile that added a bonus splash of colour.

The angle of the ‘solar verandah’ was carefully designed to let in ample winter sun and to exclude the hot summer sun. This verandah design helps to keep the house warm in winter and cool in summer.

Concrete slabs work wonderfully in temperate climates to add beneficial thermal mass and connect our homes to the stable temperatures of the ground beneath.

I love the natural patina of burnished concrete finished with natural oils. Burnished concrete is simply highly trowelled to a achieve an impervious and smooth finish, whereas polished concrete allows the aggregate to become the star of the show.

We’ve experienced living with both burnished and polished concrete and have explored natural sealer options extensively over many years.

David O’Meara Designs is not solely about thermal comfort. Toxicity levels and the sustainability of the materials and finishes within your home are considered too.

Recently completed coastal lifestyle home in Kalbarri with amazing views and loaded with eco features!

Passive solar design, chemical free, recycled timber, grey water recycling, rain water harvesting, solar hot water, LED lighting and designed to be only as big as it needed to be.

With amazing ecologists as owners the landscaping is sure to be perfectly suited to the location too.

What an honour to be the designer of the MBA 2020 Country Home of the Year Award!
There's always tough competition for this state-wide award, especially from the South West region, so it's extra special to have the Mid-West recognised. MBA's comment of this home being "truly unique and energy efficient" is the intent for every home I design and this one achieved that and so much more.
Awesome homes don't happen without awesome clients. Thank you Paul and Hannah for the privilege, each home is a collaborative effort and it was a pleasure collaborating with you!
Congrats to McAullay Builders, your workmanship is meticulous and this award is well deserved!
