Celebrating Isaac 🔨👏🏻

We’ve had a big start to the year at Boycey’s Complete Carpentry, but our job sites have definitely felt a little quieter over the past 3 weeks while Isaac has been away completing his latest TAFE block.

This year marks two special milestones for him, last month turning 21 and now stepping into his 3rd year as an apprentice carpenter! Watching Isaac grow, learn, and find his confidence has been one of the real joys of our business. He’s become an integral part of our team, carrying himself with the right attitude, strong work ethic and heart that will make him a truly great tradesman once he finishes his time.

Isaac, well done mate. April and I are so proud of everything you’ve achieved since joining us in 2024, and even prouder of the person and tradesman you’re becoming.

Welcome to the team, Elliot 🔨

We’re excited to have Elliot join the BCC crew through the VPG work experience program with St Mary’s Catholic College, running from February to October 2026. After her first phone call with us back in 2025, it was clear she was eager to learn and ready to dive into the construction industry. Her enthusiasm hasn’t slowed down since.

Elliot chose carpentry as her preferred career path because she sees it as one of the most versatile trades, one where you gain a wide range of skills and get the satisfaction of building something from the ground up. That mindset fits perfectly with what we value here at BCC.

We’re thrilled to support Elliot on her journey toward becoming a carpenter (and maybe even a builder one day). As a company, we’re proud to champion women in construction and help open doors for the next generation.

Project Gouldian 🏗️👷🏽‍♂️🌿
This exciting project has been in the works for some time, involving extensive planning and coordination due to challenging access, sloping terrain, engineering requirements, and Council approvals. Last week, we held our final site meeting to mark out the layout and walk through the construction plans with our clients before work begins.

Perched on the hillslopes of Cairns south with spectacular views over the city, the property has incredible potential. However, the current pool area isn’t practical for a young family, with uneven ground, failing retaining walls and dropoffs, and exposed rocks making it difficult and unsafe to use.

Our team will be transforming the space into a modern poolside retreat, featuring:
✅ A new elevated poolside deck and aluminium fencing
✅ Huge 60m2 insulated panel roof extension providing a covered area for family BBQs and relaxation
✅ Outdoor kitchen space perfect for entertaining
✅ Structural landscaping including decorative concrete, retaining walls and custom seating with integrated LED strip lighting

Through working with our clients, council, certifiers and behind the scene team of draftsmen and engineers, we have come up with a clever and functional design to completely overhaul this backyard into a true entertainers dream.

We’re looking forward to bringing this space to life and will be sharing updates along the way.  Stay tuned as Project Gouldian begins to take shape! 👷‍♂️🌿🏡

🔧 Responsibilities:
• Manufacture and assemble high-quality cabinetry and custom joinery
• Read and interpret plans, drawings, and specifications
• Operate a wide range of machinery and hand tools
• Ensure accuracy, quality, and timely completion of all projects
• Install cabinetry on-site when required

🪚 Requirements:
• Fully qualified Cabinet Maker (Cert III in Cabinet Making or equivalent)
• Minimum 3–5 years experience in the industry
• Strong workmanship and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work from technical drawings
• Current manual driver’s licence
• Reliable, motivated, and able to work safely

Yesterday, our team caught up with a few of our subbies who were able to make it into town for some Christmas cheer ✨ It was great to spend time off site to celebrate the people who help us do what we do 👍🏻A great time was had by all - even if we only managed to snap one photo with Daniel and Isaac!

BEFORE & AFTER: Project Win 💙
This recently completed bathroom renovation was a special one for us.

We first met Mr & Mrs Payne by chance at Bunnings three years ago. We bonded instantly over everyone’s favourite Site Supervisor, “Ollie” the Aussie Shepherd X 🐶who was graciously accepting all the pats from them 😂 Since then, we’ve completed two projects for them, and they truly hold a special place at Boycey’s Complete Carpentry.

Back in 2024, our team transformed our clients’ tired 80s patio into an entertainer’s delight ➡️ check out ‘Project Windarra’ on the grid ⬅️ Fast-forward seven weeks ago, we received a call letting us know that Mr Payne had suffered a fall—and that the bathroom needed an urgent renovation so he could safely return home from hospital.

Although we were booked out for months, we moved mountains. Our team worked weekends and after hours to make this happen.

The design brief was to create a single, accessible space by merging the bathroom and toilet. We removed the dividing wall to create an open-plan layout and repositioned the toilet and shower to allow for wheelchair access. The new shower features a hand-held rose and a nib wall for easy storage of essentials, and an LED mirror offers soft night lighting. During the process, we uncovered issues with the original 1980s plumbing—but with careful planning, we resolved every challenge. To ensure Mr. Payne could access the patio we extended the previous year, our team built a custom, NDIS compliant, wheelchair ramp. Now he can comfortably reach his favourite spot and enjoy the beautiful garden and backyard.

Daniel and our apprentice, Isaac, worked tirelessly to deliver this project, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible subcontractors who helped us turn it around in record time:helms Dave Purvis Tiling Primed Plumbing & Gas Tosh Blocklaying
