How Solar Panels REALLY Turn Sunlight Into Power ☀️⚡

People love to chuck around buzzwords like “renewable energy” and “green power” but here’s what actually goes on when the sun hits your roof.

Solar panels are made up of heaps of tiny cells called photovoltaic cells. Each one is built from silicon the same stuff in computer chips. Silicon has a handy trick: sunlight knocks electrons loose inside it.

Think of it like this:

Sunlight hits the panel → photons (light particles) smack into the silicon → electrons get shaken awake → those tiny buggers start moving → boom, movement of electrons is electricity.

We wire those cells together so that all that electron-traffic flows in one direction, down into big chunky cables. That gives you DC power (direct current). Your home and appliances run on AC power (alternating current), so the system’s inverter steps in like a translator and flips DC into AC.

From there, you can:

• Use that energy instantly to run your home
• Store it in batteries for night-time or blackout power
• Pump excess into the grid for credits (if the energy companies behave themselves)

⚡ Li-ion vs LiFePO₄ & Why Tekka Energy Chooses Safety Over Speed

Not all lithium batteries are built equal. You’ve probably heard the names Li-ion and LiFePO₄ but here’s what that really means for you.

🔸 Lithium-ion (Li-ion)
You’ll find these in phones, e-bikes, and cheap storage systems. They’ve got high energy density and can deliver a lot of punch fast but they run hotter, wear out quicker, and if pushed too hard, they can overheat or even ignite. That’s called thermal runaway, and it’s not something you want happening near your house or shed.

🔹 Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄)
This is what we use and for good reason. LiFePO₄ chemistry is naturally stable. It stays cooler, doesn’t burn under stress, and won’t go into thermal runaway. That means no surprise fires, no puffed cells, and no toxic gases.

every battery system we build includes a built-in aerosol fire extinguishing system.
