Possible…. Storm ☔️ warning ⚠️
HEADS UP: Tomorrow we will see isolated severe thunderstorm activity move west of Brisbane.
Severe thunderstorms are expected to develop from about 2 o’clock in the afternoon west of Brisbane and through Central Queensland, and also in a much more significant capacity over the border into Northeast New South Wales.
These thunderstorms are expected to bring large hail, damaging wind gusts and some moderate rainfall. Very dangerous Severe thunderstorms are possible over the border into New South Wales, with the risk of giant hailstones possible.
Southeast Queensland Thunderstorms will begin developing around 330 in the afternoon, likely around the Toowoomba and Warwick area. Conditions here aren’t extremely favourable for thunderstorms, however one or two strong potentially severe cells are possible. The strongest storm activity will be through the scenic rim and over the Darling Downs, not in the Brisbane area.
By 5 o’clock thunderstorm activity will be pushing into the Wivenhoe Outlook, likely as an upscaled system of squalls. If storms were to make it into the Brisbane or the Gold Coast area, which is not overly likely at this time, they will be substantially weaker and non-severe. Some strong wind gusts and a few bolts of lightning is all you can expect in the Brisbane area.
I’ll have a separate forecast for New South Wales later today, because the situation particularly to the northern parts of New South Wales around Moree and lightning Ridge, through the north east slopes, and the mid north coast, looks particularly dangerous for a few spots. Widespread supercell thunderstorm activity is expected.
Thank you for taking a read all. This is not a concern for Queensland but certainly something to keep an eye on, storms once again forecast to wash out weekend plans for some. Cheers Josh.
