Bring your laptop. Walk out with a working AI agent.

The Copilot AI Builders Workshop is on Wednesday 21 October at Club Macquarie, Argenton, hosted by Lake Macquarie Business.

In this workshop we'll map the workflow, then design and build working agents inside your own Microsoft Copilot Studio.

You'll walk out with:
- A working agent built in your own Copilot studio
- Workflow design skills you can apply to repetitive workflows in your daily work
- Safe AI and connecting agents to data
- A clear picture of where AI can assist you every day, and where you stay in control

To take part, bring your laptop and an active Microsoft 365 Copilot Premium licence. Limited places available.

Details and tickets are in the comments.

You didn’t choose most of the AI in your firm.

It came bundled in the software you already pay for, influencing outcomes without anyone calling it an AI decision.

The objection we hear most is “we’ll wait until the law is clear”.

It’s already clear enough to act on:

‣ A dedicated Australian AI Act isn’t due until 2027
‣ The 10 December obligations are already legislated
‣ They land under the Privacy Act your firm answers to now

Waiting doesn’t buy you time. It just moves the same work closer to the deadline.

Here’s the part that actually takes thought. Not every use of AI carries the same obligation. The work is knowing which ones do, and that’s a different exercise from writing a policy.

The session is tomorrow. Thursday 24 September, 12pm and 6pm AEST. For owners and leaders of accounting, finance, insurance, legal and HR firms already using AI.

10 December is the deadline. September still gives you room to get ahead of it.

Save this for your December planning, and send it to whoever signs off on AI in your firm.

Your team loved the AI workshop. That's about when the new level, new devil starts -

Five people building the same workflow, agents nobody owns, and partners who can't say for sure how AI touched the work going out the door.

Op top of this, professional services firms are in scope for the 10 Dec automated decision making and privacy legislation changes.

Rod's back in the studio for a 2 part series on the AI Your Business Podcast, and this time, he flipped the chair on me.

In part 1 we get into what I'm seeing inside accounting, legal and HR firms right now, including the actuarial firm that won't touch AI at all - and why caution on its own isn't the same as safe.

“We know our data is protected.”

I’ve heard that said with complete confidence. Then I checked the settings.

What the firm believed was happening, and what the setup was actually doing, were not the same thing. Information they thought was protected was going into LLMs:

‣ Training manuals
‣ Launch assets
‣ Product development
‣ Commercial IP

Nobody was trying to do the wrong thing. People were using paid AI tools to work faster, and leadership believed the setup was protecting the information.

For an accounting, finance, insurance, legal or HR firm, that distinction is the whole ballgame. Client information, professional responsibility and regulated processes are all sitting in the same workflow.

From 10 December, knowing where AI influences a decision stops being optional.

Sometimes the biggest AI risk isn’t what you know you haven’t done. It’s what you’re certain you’ve already sorted.

Free live session this Thursday 24 September, 12pm and 6pm AEST. What changes in December, where firms get caught off guard, and the three safeguards to understand first.

Save this for your December planning, and send it to whoever signs off on AI in your firm.

"We're only a team of 10. Do we really need AI governance?"

Yes. But that doesn't mean committees, a policy nobody opens, or someone maintaining registers all week.

For a smaller firm it's simpler than that. Someone owns AI. The team knows which platforms are approved, where the boundaries sit. Somebody has chosen which features are turned on or off for different roles within the team. There's clarity on what data can go where, who owns a workflow when someone builds one, and what people do when they aren't sure.

Leadership needs some way of checking in often enough to notice when something has changed.

That's governance. It should fit the size of the firm. But proportionate doesn't mean absent.

This Thursday, join me live for AI Without the Risk: the 3 essential safeguards every professional firm needs before December's AI legislation changes.

New Australian privacy obligations around automated decision-making start on 10 December. If your firm already uses AI in client work, that date matters.

AI Without the Risk is one free live session on Thursday 24 September, 12pm and 6pm AEST, built for accounting, finance, insurance, legal and HR firms.

No three-month project. No crash course in privacy law. Just what actually changes, where AI use inside your firm warrants a closer look, and the three safeguards worth having on your radar before December.

When it goes wrong, nobody asks the AI, they ask you.

That distinction gets lost in the AI productivity conversation, and it matters more as AI moves out of brainstorming and drafting and into real client workflows.

An accountant uses it to help analyse information. A lawyer uses it to support research or drafting. A recruiter runs it across part of a candidate workflow. An adviser uses it to prepare or analyse.

In every one of those, the AI helped. It didn't become the professional responsible.

Here are the four questions that decide the outcome:

‣ Question one. Where did human judgement sit?
‣ Question two. Who reviewed the output?
‣ Question three. Who understood what the AI could and couldn't reliably do?
‣ Question four. Who owned the final outcome?

Most firms can answer one of those quickly - they're business questions, not technology questions.

AI changes how the work gets done. It doesn't change whose name is on it.

We're walking through what that means before privacy legislation changes on 10 December in a free live session on Thursday 24 September, 12pm and 6pm AEST. It's built for accounting, finance, insurance, legal and HR firms already using AI.

You approved an AI platform and rolled it out - that doesn't mean you can see the whole AI picture.

AI is increasingly showing up in more places - inside software teams were already using, specialist platforms, workflows and automations... and through individual tools people have chosen for themselves.

So the question for leadership is now the next level:
"Where is AI being used across the business?"
"What information is it touching?"
"Where is it influencing a process or outcome?"

And it matters even more with new Australian privacy obligations relating to automated decision-making starting on 10 December.

I'm going to unpack this further in a free live online presentation, especially for professional firms on 24 September.

If you're an accounting, legal, insurance, finance, or HR firm, this will one's especially for you.
