HEG Kia EV3 all-electric consultant vehicles being charged at HEGquarters.

For faster charging, we opted for a three-phase Zappi2 EV charger, which is able to use either fast charging or "charge only using excess solar". Because the Zappi2 EV charger is facing a public street, we use a PIN access option and a removable charging cord (referred to as "un-tethered") for security.

HEG Consultants simply pull up in their electric vehicles, plug in a charging cable, enter a PIN and let the EV charge as much as possible before the next in-home energy audit. 15kW of solar panels provide free power where possible. HEG opted for Kia EV3 Air Long Range which provides approx 605km of range (Hobart to Launceston and back, no problems!).

100kW HEG commercial solar system ☀️ at Elphin Sports Centre.

We're sharing this post to show off the two solar systems that we have installed over the past 6 years that happen to be caught in some cool drone footage!

Whilst HEG is know best for our residential energy efficiency solutions, we also do a reasonable amount of commercial work. With Elphin Sports Centre, we installed about 35kW of solar in 2019, and then installed a second 65kW solar system at the beginning of 2026. We also upgraded all the downlights a few years back from the "wait 15 minutes for the lights to warm up" variety to the instant-on LED variety (television broadcast standard).

It is the time of year where the bedrooms could use a little bit of extra heat, and the warmth from wood heaters or heat pumps aren't able to travel too far from the living room.

Your options depend on your house characteristics. Typically, HEG will tackle cold bedrooms by ensuring a good layer of ceiling insulation, adding underfloor insulation if your home is on raised wooden floorboards, add a ducted air circulation system customised to your home, and then bundle in a roof heat recovery module, which effectively uses your roof cavity as a solar air heater.

Other options include multiple heat pumps, or a zoned ducted heat pump.
