This year 128 of our staff will have achieved 15 years or more with CITIC and Sino Iron. They’ve been there for the ups and downs…and seen the project grow into Australia’s biggest iron ore value-adding operation. Hear their story.

Applications are now open for Round 2 of CITIC Pacific Mining’s Community Support Fund (CCSF).

Community groups and not-for-profit organisations across the Pilbara and City of Karratha can apply for grants of up to $5,000 to support projects that make a positive difference in their local communities.

Since 2021, the CCSF has helped fund a range of grassroots initiatives across Karratha, Roebourne, Wickham, Point Samson, Dampier and Cossack supporting education and training, healthy and active lifestyles, cultural learning and exchange, environmental responsibility and youth development.

Funded through our Containers for Change WA initiative and delivered in partnership with North West Recycling, every container returned through Sino Iron helps support local community projects.

Applications for Round 2 close on 26 August 2026.

Manta rays are no stranger to the waters of Cape Preston, however sightings so close to our port terminal facility don’t happen every day.

TAMS crew member Daniel Frost, Vessel Engineer aboard the CTV Ardea, recently captured a special encounter as these majestic creatures cruised through our Tug Pens.

It’s a reminder of the rich marine environment that exists alongside our operations at Sino Iron and the unique wildlife that can be found along the Pilbara coastline.

On Saturday, CPM welcomed family members of employees and long-term contractors to Cape Preston, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at life at Sino Iron and the important role played by their loved ones at site.

From exploring port, pit and processing operations, to climbing aboard some massive mining machinery, guests gained a new appreciation of why this is a true megaproject. They also learned more about the region’s unique environment and cultural heritage, toured the village facilities and enjoyed a special lunch in the dining room, and a special appearance from Magnetite Man!

A huge thank you to all presenters, drivers, support staff, Sodexo Australia, Alliance Airlines and everyone who helped make the day such a memorable experience.

We’re looking forward to welcome more families to Sino Iron to our next Family Day next month!

CPM today flicked the switch on its new solar and battery microgrid at Fortescue River Village and Roadhouse, supporting more reliable and sustainable energy supply in the Pilbara.

Delivered in partnership with Gen Off Grid, the system is expected to reduce carbon emissions for the precinct by more than 36% - equivalent to saving nearly 200,000 litres of diesel annually.

The project was officially opened by Kevin Michel MLA, joined by City of Karratha Deputy Mayor Jodie Swaffer.

CPM Chairman Chen Sui said:

“This is a small but important step in our wider mission to make Sino Iron a green, intelligent mining operation. It represents another step forward in our commitment to reducing emissions and supporting the transition to cleaner energy solutions across our operations.”

As the sun rose over Sino Iron this morning, CPM employees and contractors came together to pay their respects and reflect on the service and sacrifice of those who both have and continue to serve Australia. A meaningful moment shared by many across site. Lest we forget.

The latest successful applicants for the CITIC Pacific Mining Community Fund (CCSF) focus on investment in education, health, and youth development across the Pilbara.

Live to Tell Your Story by Prepare Produce Provide will engage local students in hospitality and culinary arts through workshops, industry-led training and cultural storytelling, incorporating First Nations bush foods.

Funding for Perth Children's Hospital Foundation will support the Pilbara Rare Care Hub, extending specialist services from Perth to regional communities. Outreach clinics will improve access to care for children with rare and undiagnosed diseases.

Nepalese Association of Agriculture, Forestry, and Environment in Australia will deliver EcoRise: Youth Leadership in Environmental Responsibility, an eight-week program empowering young people to lead regional sustainability initiatives, including tree planting and community clean-ups.

All three recipients will receive a $5000 grant. A second round will be announced later in the year.

Funded through CPM's Containers for Change WA recycling program and in partnership with North West Recycling, the program reinvests funds raised from drink container recycling at our Sino Iron operation into grassroots community projects in the Pilbara.
