The kitchen, the heart of the home 🤍

Warm timber, soft marble, and gentle curves create an effortless sense of ease, while natural light moves through the space from morning to evening, softening everything it touches.

Homes are getting tighter. And that’s a good thing.

Less drafts. Less heat loss. More stable internal temperatures.
But when you tighten up a home, you change the way it breathes.

Every day we cook, shower, dry clothes, breathe. A family can put litres of moisture into the air without even thinking about it. In older homes that moisture just leaked out through gaps and cracks. In modern homes, it doesn’t.

So if we’re building airtight, we also need to be intentional about ventilation.

That’s where a HRV system comes in.

Instead of random air sneaking in through wall cavities or under doors, fresh air is brought in at a known quantity, filtered, and delivered to specific areas of the home. At the same time, stale moist air is extracted. The heat is recovered in the process, so you’re not throwing away the energy you’ve paid for.

It’s controlled. It’s measured. It’s verified.

Airtightness and ventilation go hand in hand.
One without the other doesn’t make sense.

At Haven Homes we focus on building homes that prioritise comfort, health and durability.
Not just assuming performance, but verifying and optimising it.

Let’s talk about comfort…

It’s a cold Tassie morning.
Ice on the windscreen.
Zero degrees outside.

You step back inside, close the door…
and the house just holds you.

The temperature sits comfortably around 20 degrees.
No heaters blasting.
No cold drafts sneaking past your ankles.

That’s this combination at work.

An air tight envelope
Thicker 140 mm external walls filled with insulation
Triple-glazed windows

Windows have the biggest impact on how a home actually feels day to day.
Once orientation is right, they’re the difference between managing the cold…
and barely noticing it.

Same goes for noise.
Traffic outside. Neighbours going about their day.
All of that stays out there, where it belongs.

Inside?
Calm.
Quiet.
Comfort you don’t have to think about.

That’s what we mean when we talk about comfort.
Not a feature.
A feeling you live with every day.

In a previous video, we talked about the internal airtightness membrane. That’s one part of the airtightness system in your home.

This is the next part.

The service cavity sits inside the airtight layer and allows electrical and plumbing services to be installed without cutting into it. It actually makes rough-in simpler for trades, while protecting the performance of the home long term.

Better coordination on site. Fewer compromises. More consistent comfort once you move in.
