Construction is underway on two Bruce Highway upgrade sections near Gairloch in North Queensland.

The Australian and Queensland governments confirmed the construction milestone on 20 October 2026. Gairloch to Ripple Creek involves road widening and drainage improvements, while the Ingham–Halifax–Bemerside Road to Cardwell Range section involves road widening.

Previously announced $50 million resilience funding relates to Gairloch to Ripple Creek. It is not a newly announced combined construction contract.

For road and civil contractors, pavement specialists, drainage suppliers and regional logistics businesses, this is a meaningful move into delivery. However, construction commencement does not confirm open subcontract tenders, individual contract awards or an overall completion date.

Queensland has unveiled a new four-lane preferred design for the Bribie Island Bridge Upgrade, changing how the island’s only road connection could operate.

The 18 October announcement proposes a new four-lane road bridge immediately north of the existing crossing. The current bridge would be retained for walking, cycling and mobility-device access.

Transport and Main Roads lists the project in detailed design, with geotechnical investigations announced for the week commencing 19 October. Public feedback on the preferred layout and marine-park considerations is open until 27 November 2026.

For engineering, civil, transport and marine businesses, this is a project-development milestone rather than a construction tender. Environmental processes, final engineering and future delivery decisions remain ahead. BBI is watching for design updates, approvals and verified procurement notices.

The proposed Kariboe Wind Farm and Battery in Central Queensland has a new Commonwealth environmental-assessment checkpoint: a notification of variation to the proposal was published on 14 October 2026.

Developer OX2 currently describes up to 225 MW of wind generation and a battery rated up to 225 MW, with up to four hours of duration, near Thangool across the Banana and North Burnett regions.

The notice confirms a regulatory filing, not a final environmental approval, new investment decision or construction contract. Its public listing also does not establish precisely which engineering parameters were varied.

For Queensland contractors, the near-term signals to watch are the underlying variation documents, formal assessment decisions, project-design updates, grid-connection progress and any authorised procurement announcement.

Queensland's Eagle Downs Mine Transport Corridor has reached another milestone in Commonwealth environmental assessment. The EPBC notices register records a preliminary-documentation assessment approach for referral 2026/10625, decided on 10 October and published on 13 October 2026.

This is an assessment-pathway milestone, not approval to build, and not confirmation that transport construction packages have been released.

For Bowen Basin engineering, civil, environmental and logistics businesses, the immediate value is understanding the status and monitoring what comes next. The final corridor alignment, detailed construction scope and commercial commitments are not confirmed by this decision.

Watch for preliminary-documentation requirements, updated regulator notices, any consultation process and formal procurement announcements through authorised project channels.

Queensland has shortlisted AGL, ANZA Power, APA Group and Quinbrook for the Central Queensland Gas Power Tender — the next major step towards its 400 MW gas-fired generation target by 2032.

The QIC-managed tender attracted indicative proposals from all 10 qualified proponents, collectively representing more than 4 GW of prospective capacity. This is potential bid capacity, not an approved construction program.

Further evaluation, due diligence and engagement come next. No successful project, plant location, construction contract or final investment decision has been announced.

For Queensland engineering, civil, mechanical and electrical suppliers, today's shortlist identifies the organisations still in the process. Major contracting packages, delivery schedules and individual supply-chain opportunities remain unconfirmed. BBI will continue tracking the project as the selection process advances.

Queensland has opened public consultation on Santos' proposed Roma Phase 7-7B-SD20 Development near Wallumbilla.

The PL1123 environmental-authority application covers a 1,229-hectare area about five kilometres east of Wallumbilla. It proposes up to 24 coal seam gas wells, including five existing appraisal wells, as well as associated gas and water gathering infrastructure.

Submissions are open until 13 November 2026. This is an assessment and consultation milestone, not a new environmental approval, construction commitment or live tender.

For Queensland engineering, drilling support, civil works and industrial-service providers, key next signals include the regulator's decision, any conditions and Santos' future procurement disclosures. Potential capabilities should not be confused with awarded contracts.

Powerlink has opened consultation on a fresh assessment of Queensland's electricity system-strength requirements after changed coal-generator retirement and operating assumptions.

The Draft Material Change in Circumstances Assessment is a regulatory decision milestone, not a new construction award. Submissions close on 30 November 2026, with a final statement required by 9 December.

The earlier reference portfolio included nine synchronous condensers across Central and Southern Queensland, while four individual Central Queensland machines at Stanwell, Nebo and Calliope River have already been announced. Powerlink also has an existing supply-and-install agreement with Hitachi Energy for those four machines.

For contractors, the meaningful signals to watch are the final revised assessment, contingent-project investment approvals and any formally released work packages. BBI separates established project commitments from conditional future opportunities.

Queensland's proposed Abermain Battery Project at Tivoli has entered Commonwealth environmental review, with EPBC referral 2026/10651 open for public comment.

AGL describes the project as a proposed 125 MW battery, while referral reporting describes approximately 500 MWh of storage. The project has local development approval dating to November 2023, but this does not replace the Commonwealth assessment. There is no confirmed federal approval, final investment decision, construction start or awarded work. For electrical, civil, grid-connection and specialist suppliers, the current signal is assessment progression, not a live construction tender. BBI is watching the federal decision pathway, any design refinements and future procurement announcements.

Logan Indoor Sports Centre has reached a tangible procurement milestone: the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority has opened an Expression of Interest for a delivery contractor, with submissions closing 5 November 2026.

The proposed Logan Central venue is planned as a nine-court multipurpose facility with Games-time capacity for 7,000 people and community sporting use beyond Brisbane 2032. Existing building demolition finished in April 2026, and this October EOI is a distinct step towards selecting a delivery contractor.

For Queensland construction and specialist-services businesses, potential capability areas include civil works, structural steel and concrete, building services, sports fit-out, accessibility and landscaping. These are future capability areas, not confirmed subcontract packages or awards.

The EOI does not mean a contractor has been appointed, construction approved or a start date locked in. Check official tender reference VP529611 and any addenda for current submission requirements.

Queensland has announced $44.5 million for two new water and enabling-infrastructure investments in Mackay and Sarina, linked to more than 7,200 potential future homes.

The funding includes $12.1 million for capacity upgrades at Mackay’s Nebo Road Water Treatment Plant and $32.4 million for stormwater, sewer pumping and mains, water supply, electrical infrastructure, roads and a roundabout in Sarina.

For Queensland engineering and construction businesses, the announcement creates two specific infrastructure projects to monitor across water treatment, civil works and utilities. It is not yet an awarded construction program.

The confirmed development is Queensland’s funding announcement on 16 October 2026. Detailed scope, procurement pathways, tender notices, appointed contractors and delivery dates still need to be confirmed.
