Now, more than two decades later, Australia has been asked to decide the next step toward a more equitable and just society for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
The upcoming referendum will determine the establishment of an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament. A ‘Yes’ majority vote would provide permanent representation and recognition for Indigenous communities in the Australian Constitution, and a way for First Nations peoples to help inform policy and legal decisions that impact their lives.

The 14 October 2023 referendum will be a pivotal moment in history, offering Australians the opportunity to take a significant step toward a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
