Congratulations to the Industry Capability Network - Victoria and Kinaway-The Victorian Aboriginal Chamber of Commerce on another outstanding Aboriginal Business Showcase at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The event continues to demonstrate genuine leadership in bringing together Aboriginal businesses, government, project owners and industry to create meaningful commercial opportunities and strengthen Victoria's growing Indigenous economy.

These connections are exactly what transform policy into practical outcomes.

It was also encouraging to hear The Hon. Colin Brooks MP acknowledge in his opening remarks, the progress Yurringa Energy is making as Australia's first Indigenous-owned energy retailer.

That recognition reinforces the importance of innovation and supporting First Nations businesses that are creating new industries, new careers and long-term economic participation.

Following last year’s success in making new connections, ICN Victoria’s Aboriginal Business Showcase returns to bring together Aboriginal businesses, project owners, government and contractors who are committed to meaningful partnerships on Victoria’s major projects.

Through a focused program of presentations and panel discussions, alongside an exhibitor showcase, attendees will gain direct access to Aboriginal suppliers, hear from business and project leaders, and explore practical approaches to embedding Aboriginal participation across the project lifecycle—from planning through to delivery and operations.

Yurringa Energy remains a 95% First Nations-owned energy retailer after successful $3 million capital raise to fund growth

Yurringa Energy completed a successful $3 million capital raise to fund the next stage of growth. Founder and Executive Chairman Daniel Briggs said ‘We’re a proud majority First Nations-owned business and always will be, but to grow the company nationally requires investment. Securing Taungurung Land and Waters Council (TLaWC), a Victorian Traditional Owner Corporation, and First Nations-led investment company Federation Enterprises is a fantastic outcome. Yurringa Energy is a commercially successful business and we’ll always seek to empower First Nations people and communities as we drive that commercial success’.

Matthew Burns, TLaWC CEO said ‘TLaWC is investing in the here and now, but also for long-term generational economic outcomes. We are considering a range of renewable energy and critical minerals opportunities on Taungurung Country and see a First Nations-owned retail energy company as a vital piece of the energy transition jigsaw.’

Federation Enterprises Chair Rodney Jackson said ‘Federation Enterprises accelerates Traditional Owners’ self-determination through strategic investments that enable economic independence. Our investment in Yurringa Energy is absolutely about deriving commercial returns so we can diversify our revenue streams and grow our impact, but it’s more strategic than that alone. We see the establishment, growth and success of Australia’s first Indigenous-owned energy retailer as continuing to blaze a trail in industries where First Nations businesses are either absent or underrepresented.’

Australian philanthropist, businessman and former Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Peter McMullin AM also supported the successful capital raise and said ‘Yurringa Energy takes an investment approach to ‘closing the gap’ for First Nations Australian’s. I strongly believe this investment approach is something we all need to get behind and support. One thing any government, industry or commercial business needs to do is purchase energy. Why not use that procurement power to drive economic outcomes and employment for First Nations people? It’s a classic win-win.’

Big News - Yurringa Energy to Power Suburban Rail Loop Construction

Yurringa Energy is proud to announce a further milestone in supporting Victoria’s major infrastructure program, the Big Build, with the award of an energy supply package for tunnelling on Suburban Rail Loop East being delivered by consortium Terra Verde.

Yurringa Energy will supply power to Terra Verde’s tunnel boring machines, enabling critical tunnelling works between Glen Waverley and Box Hill that will form part of one of Victoria’s most significant nation-building projects. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to innovation, reliability and delivering long-term value for all Victorians.

As Australia’s first and only First Nations–owned energy retailer, each new contract represents more than commercial growth, it marks tangible progress in reshaping an industry where First Nations participation has historically been limited or absent.

Building a start-up in the energy sector is inherently complex, and the support of partners who understand and actively back First Nations-led businesses is both valued and celebrated. These partnerships contribute to a broader, progressive movement that embeds First Nations companies and workforces at the core of Australia’s energy and infrastructure delivery.
