Richards Bay Coal Terminal shipped 57.66 million tonnes in 2025, up more than 10%, as Transnet’s coal line stabilises. Faster French 23E locomotives and sharply reduced cable theft are lifting throughput, with 60 million-plus targeted in 2026. Coal’s climate baggage remains, but export earnings still matter for South Africa.
