One major thing that i recommend is for who ever you choose to do your works. Is to do some research on whom you are asking to perform your construction, just like you would buying a new car or a house or any purchase of substantial $$$ value. Cause once it is done is there to stay. Well you would HOPE.

# Check they are licensed for required works
# Check they have full insurances applicable to the works
# Ask about local area eg. Hardware, Concrete Supplier
with council if any History.
Because it can become very expensive to remove and redo professionally.
