đź’¬ Rate Reality Check 2026
Let’s have the real convo.
These numbers are rough — some might be higher, some lower — but the principle stays the same.
With 2026 rolling in and everyone asking “what’s happening with rates?”, here’s a simpl breakdown of what it actually costs to run a new line pump in AUSTRALIA if you’re doing it properly.
Weekly Reality
Truck & pump loan – $1,400
Workers comp – $110
Green slip – $23
Rego – $15
Public liability + insurance – $106
Fuel – $500
Line hand – $1,400
Operator – $2,000
Tolls – $61
Sand / cleanup – $50
Maintenance / wear – $300
Yard / rent – $300
➡️ Total: $6,265 per week
And that’s 52 weeks a year — because the truck, insurance, and loans don’t take holidays.
When You Factor in Time Off
You might only get 46 working weeks after holidays, rain days, breakdowns, and slow periods.
That’s 1,840 working hours per year (8 hrs × 5 days × 46 weeks).
So:
$6,265 Ă— 52 = $325,780/year.
Spread across 1,840 hours = $177/hour just to break even.
Add a bit of profit:
+15% = $204/hr
+25% = $221/hr
+30% = $230/hr

Some of you are gunna sit there and say, “Yeah but you gotta do three jobs a day.”
Yeah, yeah — but f**k boys, reality is you ain’t gunna get three jobs a day.
One job a day should still be profitable.
If you can get three — mad, stack it up. But look at the numbers.
And some of you out there are still doing jobs cheaper than this cost rate.
I get it — some of you own your machines outright, ya ya — but f**k me boys, there are booms out there doing jobs for $180/hr.
I know because I get calls every day about this s**t.
That’s not “being competitive.”
That’s undervaluing the whole industry.
To put it in perspective — the mechanic that works on your pump charges $120–$150/hr, sometimes more.
And we’re out here running two blokes, a truck, fuel, insurance and everything else for thirty bucks more an hour.
It’s f**ken insane.
No wonder s**t goes wrong, boys.
At these rates we can’t even allow for proper safety, training, or a good workplace for the crew — the stuff that should be standard in an industry this dangerous.
We all love it.
We all live it.
We all breathe it.
So why the f**k can’t we all get together and start making money together?
These rates are based on buying a new line pump and running it right — not cutting corners, not running on luck.
Yeah, yeah — this is based on a new truck.
That’s right — a new, reliable truck with warranty, uptime, and no surprises.
Sure, we can all go out and buy a second-hand rig, but maintenance goes up, reliability goes down, and with that, so does safety and the quality of service we give to our customers.
If we’re talking about running a professional business, then we’ve got to be realistic about what it costs to do it properly.
If you want to be part of the change, join the group Operators Worldwide.
Let’s get our heads together and make pumping great again.
At the end of the day fellas, we need a proper chat about more than just rates — we need to talk minimum hours, travel, and fair standards.
If we can’t agree on the basics, nothing changes.
Let’s set a line we all stand behind and stop racing to the bottom.
I’m not the man that can get it all done —
but I’ll sure as hell be the voice for everyone in this industry.
Every week the DMs are full of blokes talking about rates, safety, breakdowns, and the same struggles we all face.
We’re all out here having the same chats — it’s time we put it together and stood as one.
2026 — . Rate Up lads
Respect the machine. Respect the crew. Respect yourself.
