Forests are vital to our environment, communities and future — providing habitat for biodiversity, storing carbon and supplying renewable materials we rely on every day.

This Forest Week, FIFWA is celebrating the role of responsible, well-managed forestry in providing renewable timber, supporting jobs and communities, and ensuring forests continue to deliver benefits for generations to come.

This year’s theme, “Do one thing for Forests,” is a reminder that we can all play a part by valuing forests and choosing responsibly sourced, renewable forest products.

🌳 TIMBER STORES CARBON

Trees absorb carbon from the atmosphere as they grow, and that carbon remains safely stored in timber long after the tree has been harvested.

Around half the dry weight of timber is stored carbon, meaning timber buildings can continue storing carbon for decades.

🔒 An average Australian timber-framed home stores more than 10 tonnes of CO₂e — equivalent to approximately 126 one-way flights from Melbourne to Sydney.
