Last Friday we took ten of our team to The MATES Annual Lunch - one of the most important events on the WA industry calendar.

MATES exists to make sure that when someone is struggling, there’s a person nearby who knows how to help.
That’s a simple idea with a big impact, and it’s one we’re proud to support.

It was a great afternoon. Good food, a full room of industry people who care, and a guest speaker in Dr. Craig Challen who reminded everyone what humans are capable of when they show up for each other.

The solutions we design and deploy don’t exist without the engineers who’ll build them.

Last week, we welcomed 40 environmental engineering masters students from to our manufacturing workshop - giving them a hands-on look at infrastructure at scale, across the full lifecycle: installation, commissioning, maintenance and decommissioning.

These are the engineers who’ll be shaping the resources sector for the next 30 years. Spending time with them isn’t just good for UON - it’s an investment in the industry we’re all building together.

Over three sessions this month, UON’s Production, Energy and Office teams completed MATES in Mining General Awareness Training - bringing our total to over 130 personnel trained across the business.

MATES is a charity providing support across Mining, Energy, Construction and Manufacturing industries. Through their peer support program, the aim is to equip people to look out for their workmates, recognise the signs that someone might be struggling, and know how to have that conversation.

The training didn’t stop at General Awareness - 14 staff have gone on to complete Connector training, and 5 have taken it further still with ASIST - Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training.

That’s not just a box-ticking exercise, that’s people investing in each other.

Not all dewatering jobs are equal.

When your pit wall is 80 metres deep, getting water out takes planning, precision, and a team that knows what they’re doing. This DN250 pipe was lowered carefully down the wall - the kind of work that looks straightforward in a photo but isn’t.

As operations go deeper, so does the complexity. Our deepest delivery to date: 165 metres.

We recently replaced a 5MW diesel power station at a remote mine site with a UON SMART™ hybrid energy system - optimised solar and BESS, with full remote monitoring, designed and delivered end-to-end by our team.
Over 30 months, the switch delivered $7 million in savings against a business-as-usual scenario. That’s not a modelled projection. That’s what our customer actually saved.
The same project offset 8,450 tonnes of CO₂ - the equivalent of 384,000 trees growing for a year.
