The Opportunity
We need an experienced Welding Inspector for a one-week contract at a Rio Tinto site, Monday 5 to Friday 9 October 2026. You will carry out weld inspection and quality assurance alongside our operations team, making sure the work meets the required codes, standards and specifications.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect welds and welding activities before, during and after fabrication or repair
Review welding procedures (WPS/PQR) and welder qualifications
Verify materials, joint preparation, fit-up, preheat and interpass temperatures, and consumables
Coordinate or witness NDT and review results where required
Prepare accurate inspection reports and NCRs, and hand over documentation at the end of the job
Liaise with our team and client representatives on findings and corrective actions
Follow all site, safety and quality requirements, including JSAs and toolbox meetings
Essential Requirements
Current CSWIP 3.2 or CERT 10 welding inspector certification
Proven, sound experience as a Welding Inspector in industrial, mining, construction, oil and gas or similar environments
Working knowledge of relevant welding codes and standards (e.g. AS/NZS 1554, AS 4041, ISO 3834, API or ASME as applicable)
Ability to produce clear, professional inspection reports
Available for the full contract period, 5–9 October 2026
Right to work in Australia
Ability to meet Rio Tinto site access requirements, including inductions, medical and drug and alcohol screening
Desirable (not essential)
Current Rio Tinto site induction or previous Rio Tinto site experience
Working at Heights and White Card
IRATA rope access certification
Additional NDT qualifications
