My journey with heavy mobile earthmoving equipment began when I was young, travelling with my dad, Norman Todd, along the dusty Pilbara roads to remote job sites—often days from town and away for weeks at a time.
Those early experiences shaped my understanding of hard work, the land, and the industry that keeps the Pilbara moving.
After finishing school, I continued working with heavy mobile equipment, starting out as an operator before progressing into supervisory roles. Each step taught me valuable lessons about leadership, responsibility, and the importance of doing the job safely.
The beginnings of Toddy's Plant Hire now, Buru Group, came when we were given the opportunity to purchase and supply our very first dry-hire 30-tonne excavator to load trains in the Pilbara. That single opportunity, built on trust and commitment, became the foundation for what Buru Group is today.
From that Excavator, Buru Group has grown into a diverse fleet of Dozers, Graders, Excavators, Loaders, Artic Dump Trucks, Posi-tracks, Water Carts, Service Trucks and Service Trailers, Lighting Towers supporting projects across Western Australia.
From those early life experiences, travelling the land with my dad came the vision for Buru Group, something I’m incredibly proud to witness the continuing growth for future generations.
