It was fantastic to meet and learn from an incredible range of speakers at the Shared Air Conference 2025 at Parliament House, Canberra. Organised by the Safer Air Project team, the theme of the conference was "Making the Invisible Visible". The team brought together people with lived experience, advocates, policymakers, clinicians, scientists, and leaders from the built environment and industry.

We don’t normally think about the air we share indoors, but given that we spend 90% of our time inside, and that the air in classrooms, workplaces and healthcare settings is often invisible and unregulated, we should.

While we don’t handle food directly, we do work in environments where food safety is critical. That’s why we’re HACCP certified and committed to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and compliance.

Recently, our team completed a refresher training session with Quality Associates Training (QATraining), reinforcing our understanding of the risks, responsibilities, and best practices that underpin safe food environments.

There are over 4 million cases of food poisoning every year in Australia, and many of these cases can be prevented. Our team is trained and aligned with the same rigorous standards that food manufacturers and kitchens must meet, This ranges from understanding pathogens, allergens and biofilm risks, through to ensuring kitchen exhaust equipment is maintained according to Standards.

Dr Stephen Wilson, BSc, PhD - Director, Australian Environmental Monitoring recently led a training session for our compliance cleaning team in Microbial Contamination identification and remediation (including bacteria, moulds, yeasts, and viruses). Our goal was to ensure our team is equipped with the latest knowledge and techniques to deliver safe, effective, and compliant remediation services.

The session specifically addressed contamination in HVAC systems, including ducts, diffusers, coils, housings, and framework.
Safety is always a priority for the wellbeing of our team, our clients and their visitors.

Stephen emphasised the importance of safety protocols, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as full-body suits, respiratory masks, eye protection, and gloves to ensure safe and compliant operations. Airgene’s advisory team of mechanical engineering and operational experts advises on the best options for remediation. Airgene recently completed a major HVAC ductwork clean in one of Sydney’s Premium A grade buildings as part of a city-centre refurbishment. Over 1km of ducting was cleaned to meet the rigorous standards of NABERS Indoor Environment and the WELL Building Standard's A05 feature, ‘Enhanced Air Quality Optimisation’.

Using NADCA and AIRAH best practices, Airgene technicians removed months of construction dust—boosting air quality and system efficiency. Post-cleaning testing confirmed PM10 and PM2.5 levels well below target thresholds, helping the building achieve its indoor air quality goals.

This project proves that what’s out of sight shouldn’t be out of mind—especially when it comes to occupant health and sustainability ratings.

Over the past two months, our team has been fully engaged in supporting the Snowy Hydro 2.0 Climate Control Room for Precise Air's Construction team. The 7,000m2 cool room was constructed within an existing warehouse that had to be cleared prior to construction.

Airgene was approached by PAG Construction to complete a full remediation clean of the warehouse, including line marking and floor polishing, plus ensuring the facility was fully prepared to store equipment for the Snowy Hydro project. Working throughout the holiday season, Airgene kept the site running smoothly by quickly removing deconstructed materials, keeping work areas clear, and mitigating potential safety hazards.

Given the complexity of the project, project management and adaptability were key. We partnered closely with our Precise Air's Construction Manager, carefully planning the program of works and responding quickly to any on-site requests.

The Airgene team recently participated in a Professional Development and Continuous Improvement workshop.

It was great to see the team actively engaging with the presenters and exercises, focusing on WHS responsibilities, accountabilities, incident reporting, and creating a SWMS.

The workshop aimed to enhance their skills, improve WHS conformance, and drive process improvements. It covered topics such as Work Health and Safety, Work Order Management, using Uptick, and HR processes. Overall, it was a really productive day with great results.
