Bringing BG&E and SYSTRA together is creating new opportunities to connect expertise across our business. However, making that meaningful starts with understanding where our clients and markets need us most.

Recently, 37 senior leaders from across BG&E - Part of SYSTRA and SYSTRA ANZ came together for 1.5 days of strategy planning across Australia and New Zealand.

The discussions focused on our clients, the markets we operate in, the services we provide today and where our combined capabilities can strengthen the way we support projects in the future.

With leaders from across both businesses in the room, it was also an opportunity to identify where our expertise complements each other, where we can work more closely, and how we continue building a stronger and more connected offering for our clients.

The strategy session was an important part of ensuring the way we grow together is shaped by the needs of the markets and clients we serve.

BG&E – Part of SYSTRA and SYSTRA were proud to sponsor the recent Railway Technical Society of Australasia (RTSA) dinner in Brisbane, bringing together professionals from across Queensland's rail industry.

The evening featured updates from Transport and Main Roads, with Brendan Cassels sharing insights on Wave 1 project integration and Ian Garrad providing an update on the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP). Genevieve de Michele also joined the panel for the evening's Q&A, before Alex Howie, Inland Rail Principal Track Engineer, closed out the event with trivia.

Representing BG&E and SYSTRA were Tim, Tamara, Nicholas McKenzie, Allen Griffiths, Bolle Borkowsky, Roshan Dahal and Megan Tam.
A great evening of industry connection, knowledge sharing and conversation around some of the major rail programs shaping Queensland's transport network.

What if a task that can take a design engineer around a week could be completed in about an hour?

That was one of the challenges explored by BG&E – Part of SYSTRA Senior Associate Civil Engineer Ho-Yee Ryan and fellow Transport Australia Fellows Clarissa Ahlberg, Anita Mumford, Brendan Rutter and Georgia Robazza.

Their research, Digitising Before You Dig Australia (BYDA), looked at how industry could improve the way underground utility information is accessed and interpreted, a process that can involve manually reviewing up to 100 pages of utility maps for a single location.

Working with utility authorities, BYDA and CEO Mell Greenall, the team developed a practical industry case for a digital approach that helped accelerate BYDA's Digital Utility Portal.

The portal is now being piloted across Brisbane, Western Sydney and Perth, with the potential to support safer worksites, faster planning and greater productivity as the platform continues to be refined ahead of potential national scale-up in 2027.

A strong example of cross-industry research moving beyond an idea and into practical application.

At 300 La Trobe Street, Melbourne, BG&E Façades is supporting the transformation of the existing building through an innovative recladding solution using large-format Dekton panels from Consentio.

Working with Charter Hall, Neoscape and Gray Puksand, the façade has been designed around the constraints of the existing building, with a focus on constructability, installation efficiency and architectural expression.

A key part of the approach is optimising larger-format panels. Increasing panel sizes and rationalising the façade module reduces the number of panels, joints and fixing interfaces — creating a cleaner architectural outcome and simplifying installation.

Precision off-site fabrication further supports the delivery, with panels pre-cut and prepared under controlled manufacturing conditions. This enables:
💡 Faster installation and less on-site fabrication
💡 Fewer joints and fixing interfaces
💡 Reduced façade dead load compared with heavier traditional stone solutions
💡 Greater dimensional consistency and quality control
💡Improved coordination around existing building conditions

For recladding projects, these efficiencies can make a significant difference, particularly when working with an existing structure and the constraints that come with it.

Earlier this week, members of our Melbourne team joined Eat Up for a workplace volunteering session, helping prepare 1,000 sandwiches for students across Victorian schools who may otherwise go without lunch.

Eat Up provides free lunches to students experiencing food insecurity, helping ensure more young people have something to eat during the school day.

In under an hour, the team prepared 1,000 sandwiches for delivery to students across Victorian schools, a small amount of time with a very tangible impact.

It was a simple, hands-on way to contribute to the communities where we work and live while supporting an organisation that addresses a very real need.

A significant recognition for one of Melbourne’s most complex waterfront transformations.

Icon has been recognised as Commercial Master Builder of the Year Winner for 2026, with the construction and delivery of Seafarers, Docklands, recognising the construction excellence behind the transformation of Melbourne’s last remaining heritage Goods Shed and Crane into a landmark mixed-use destination.

For BG&E – Part of SYSTRA, Seafarers is also a strong example of what façade engineering can enable when architecture, heritage and constructability need to work together.

As Façade Consultant, our team worked alongside Riverlee, FK , Icon and the wider consultant team from concept design through to delivery, supporting a highly bespoke façade shaped by triangulated and overlapping floor plates, complex geometries and the retained heritage fabric of the site.

Our involvement continued through design development, documentation, façade mock-ups, technical and shop drawing reviews, and site inspections, helping resolve complexity from early design through to installation.
