Congratulations to our co-founder Grace Devon Gevero on leading the WSP Writeshop for LGUs and water service providers across Central Visayas.

Proud doesn’t begin to cover it. This is exactly the kind of technical capacity-building that turns policy into practice, and WASH-Ed is lucky to have Grace driving these outcomes for safer, healthier communities.

Over 400,000 people of Filipino heritage now call Australia home and nearly 40 direct flights connect our countries each week. ✈️

Australia and the Philippines are genuinely intertwined with hundreds of thousands of families, like mine, that have one foot on each side of the Coral Sea.

I was deeply honoured this week to celebrate 128 years of Philippines independence - a nation of resilience, faith, creativity and extraordinary warmth. 🇵🇭🇦🇺

Happy International Women in Engineering Day 💙

At WASH-Ed, engineering is not an abstract discipline. It is the difference between a school with a 0-star WinS rating and one where children have reliable access to safe water and hygiene education.

This work is led, in large part, by women.

Across our team, women hold leadership and technical roles that make our impact work: licensed sanitary engineers, water sector specialists, programme leads translating DepEd and DOH standards into systems that schools can actually run. Kath Faigal, Grace Devon Gevero and Gayle are some of the amazing people behind our work, and we are proud to recognise them today.

To every woman engineer building, designing, and problem-solving for safer schools and communities, today is for you. We see the work, and we are grateful for it.

We are proud to stand alongside the Bangon SarGen: Earthquake Relief Donation Drive in support of our kababayans in General Santos and Sarangani.

As of this morning, the drive has raised Php 42,350.00 in cash donations. The first relief distribution happens this Sunday.

If you would like to help, here is how:

Cash donations via GCash: 09273835874 (Kathleen Faigal)
International donations via Revolut: https://revolut.me/jmirasol/pocket/LjW9TQAIkz
(Joanne Mirasol)

In-kind donations (hygiene kits, easy-to-cook food, purified water, groceries) can be dropped off at Tawing’s Store in Tampakan or sent directly to Kath Faigal.

Every peso counts. Please share this post and help us reach more people.

We are so proud of our Director of Curriculum & Technology, Arielle Struhl Struhl, for completing the Sydney Leadership Accelerator Program and earning her certification from The University of Sydney Business School!

Arielle’s commitment to growth - as an educator, facilitator, and leader - is exactly what drives WASH-Ed forward.

The skills and insights she brings back from this program will directly shape the quality of our learning portal and resources for young people across the Philippines and beyond.

Congratulations, Arielle. We couldn’t be prouder to have you leading the way💙

Proud and humbled.

Our Founder & CEO, Thomas Da Jose, has been recognised as a QECT 100 Young Leaders Awardee 2026 by The Queen Elizabeth II Commonwealth Trust, alongside extraordinary changemakers from across Australia.

This recognition belongs to every teacher who has completed a WASH-Ed workshop, every school that has opened its doors to us, and every child who now washes their hands before eating.

There is still so much work to do. And we are energised to do it.

World Hygiene Day was Monday. But for 14 million children in Philippine public schools, every day is a reminder of what they don't have access to 💧

Clean water. Soap. A safe place to wash their hands.

WASH-Ed exists to change that. One classroom at a time.

As we wrap up 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on what a great year it's been. The WASH-Ed team wishes all of our partners and the communities we've been working with a safe and joyful festive season and New Year's with loved ones.

Thank you for all your contributions to our mission of ensuring every child has access to education and dignified facilities for their well-being.

Have a restful break, recharge, and get ready for an exciting 2026 ahead!

Vinay played one of the biggest roles in helping WASH-Ed grow into what we are today. From his leadership and dedication, to his kindness and community-focused approach, Vinay was passionate about creating good in our communities.

He was our 2022 Laotian EYAA Volunteer who worked virtually with our team and the amazing volunteers from ASEAN Foundation to support Filipino schools and barangay affected by typhoons in the “Cebu for WASH” project. After wrapping up the program, Vinay came to Australia as an Australia Awards scholar, building a wonderful ecosystem of friends and like-minded change-makers around himself. He still found time to support WASH-Ed as a volunteer in his spare time, and we are able to expand our impact because of him.

The entire WASH-Ed team celebrates Vinay’s life and legacy. May your soul find peace.
