Endeavour Veterinary Ecology

Endeavour Veterinary Ecology Pioneering a multi-disciplined approach to koala population and health management when major development intersects critical koala habitat.

We work with our clients to go beyond compliance for wildlife management and recovery. WHERE EVERY KOALA COUNTS! Founded by Dr Jon Hanger, Endeavour Veterinary Ecology (EVE) is a Queensland ecology business, pioneering a pragmatic solution in recovering koalas at the intersection where major development meets critical koala habitat. EVE IS UNIQUE

Established in 2009, and over 1850 koalas track

ed and monitored since this time, we have designed a multi-disciplined approach to koala population and health management delivered by a specialised team of ecologists, veterinarians, drone pilots and wildlife trackers and catchers. Our application of veterinary services, smart wildlife technologies and scientific expertise is fundamental in our work. Some of our proudest achievements are:

Zero koalas harmed by vegetation clearing on projects managed by us

Successfully reversed declines in koala populations heading to likely extinction, to a 25% year-on-year population growth

Created the only dedicated, and multi-award-winning, koala tracking and monitoring technology (the K-Tracker) allowing up to hundreds of koalas on our projects to be monitored in near-real time throughout the most critical times of development

*We’re celebrating an exciting milestone*

The Fauna Escape Hatch has been recognised by the Infrastructure Sustainability Council as an Australian-first innovation, helping koalas wildlife safely exit road corridors.

The Koala Egress Trials undertaken by Endeavour Veterinary Ecology in partnership with the Transport and Main Roads Queensland through the Coomera Connector project were the catalyst for the development of this mitigation tool, combining behavioural research and field validation to improve how koalas safely exit fenced road corridors.

Since those initial trials, EVE has continued investing in adaptive design, implementation and monitoring, working with partners including City of Moreton Bay to verify outcomes in real-world conditions.

Great to see collaborative conservation delivering real outcomes for wildlife.

Contact us to find out more.

EVE welcomes conversations with practitioners, project developers, local governments and state agencies looking to advance practical, and effective solutions for wildlife across infrastructure networks.

Queensland Koala Strategy – Consultation Update

Did you hear?

The Queensland Government recently released the renewed Queensland Koala Strategy. Here at EVE, we support conservation approaches that prioritise practical action, collaboration, and on-ground outcomes for koalas and their habitat.

The proposed Strategy seeks to balance planning and conservation considerations, with a strong emphasis on delivering measurable outcomes across South East Queensland.
Andrew Powell MP for Queensland Environment indicates that this approach is intended to deliver real change where it matters most.

We encourage stakeholders and community members to review the Strategy and have their say.

EVE are proud to work alongside partners across government, councils, industry, and community to help deliver solutions that protect koalas now and into the future.

Remember - consultation closes at 5pm, 15 March 2026.

While many of us are slowing down for the holidays, koala conservation is moving forward!.

Yesterday’s announcement of the new SEQ Koala Conservation Strategy from The Minister for Environment recognises both the urgency of protecting koalas and the value of collaborative action, including support for work EVE is undertaking on chlamydia treatment and koala health monitoring! Keep an eye on our socials to hear more abouts what next!

Thanks Andrew Powell MP for your commitment and support!

Protecting wildlife is something we all share responsibility for. If you would like to do your bit, we encourage you to have your say by completing the Queensland Government survey and help shape the future of koala conservation.

We’re thrilled to see this project come to life!

Effective solutions, designed with animal behaviour in mind, can make a real difference to our wildlife and communities! Well done to everyone involved.

This kangaroo fencing initiative on Bribie Island forms part of a broader trial by EVE of Fauna Escape Hatch, testing its suitability for larger kangaroo species in addition to the smaller native wildlife already benefiting from these gates. Infrastructure like this plays an important role in reducing wildlife collisions and supporting habitat connectivity by giving animals a safe way out of fenced road corridors.

It’s exciting to be working alongside and supporting City of Moreton Bay as Fauna Escape Hatches are integrated into wildlife-friendly fencing across the region.

City of Moreton Bay is hopping into another innovative wildlife preservation initiative, with the introduction of roadside escapes for kangaroos and wallabies following a successful field trial of roadside hatches to reduce koala fatalities.

A huge thank-you to everyone who donated to Sunshine Coast Council’s recent Give a Sheet event.

Kudos to all involved in this fantastic initiative that diverts pre-loved linens from landfill and sends them to BlockTexx to be transformed into new products!

Just like your local vet, we go through plenty of towels each day for bedding, handling, and transporting animals—our clients just happen to be Endangered Species!

We’re proud to have been part of today’s announcement: Australia’s first approved koala chlamydia vaccine is set for rollout after over a decade of research by University of the Sunshine Coast. 🐨💉

Our team sees the devastating impact of chlamydia in koalas every day. We've been proud to support in-field trials—administering the vaccine as part of our broader, holistic approach to koala health.

Koala management is complex and requires a multi-disciplinary approach. This vaccine is a powerful new tool in the toolbox for supporting at-risk populations.

Huge congratulations to Prof. Peter Timms and the UniSC team behind this incredible milestone! 👏🌿
