LAB (lactobacilli) doing its thang!!
Go you good thing!!
4-5 days of highly active fermentation, then will settle and ready for use in 4 weeks.
Fish hydrolysate will store for 1-2 years given the correct treatment.

Who doesn’t love left overs!!!
All our “protein” to make fish hydrolysate is local and sustainably sourced from our beautiful Pacific Ocean. Nothing goes to waste 👌👌

What’s left after 4 to 6 weeks?…… Liquid gold

50kgs of fish waste (heads, frames, guts and skins) are used to produce each batch of fish hydrolysate.
Less than 10% of solids remain after fermentation.

Fermentation – The active state of hydrolysis where bacteria (LAB) in water will break down the protein (fish waste) in an anerobic environment (oxygen free). Our fermentation takes between 4-6 weeks. Unlike Fish Emulsion, Fish Hydrolysate doesn’t undergo heating and removal of fats and oils which the beneficial microbes and fungi love.

Our Fish hydrolysate is fermented using fish waste that is locally sourced. It is minced and mixed with sugar/water and uses lactobacillus to break down the protein into bioavailable food for the soil and plants. The fermentation process is highly active for the first 4 to 5 days then stabilises.

When diluted, it is an ideal soil conditioner and fertiliser, can be added to compost, inoculate seed prior to planting and as a foliar application during plant growth.

What is LAB – Our lactobacillus is made on farm. It’s the workhorse (bacteria) behind breaking down the fish waste into a broad spectrum of major nutrients and trace elements in plant available form. LAB has also been used as a prebiotic for plant development and health since the 1800s

Applying one of our biological fertilisers (Fish Hydrolysate) to a cover crop that we recently put in. Unlike synthetic fertilisers you need less as time goes on as your soil biology grows. The goal is to create a closed loop system where all the organic matter is cycled back into the soil preserving the nutrients and carbon levels. This means farming can be done in a much more sustainable way with far less inputs. James coren rigged up this system to make application quick and easy. 😀 Insta Byron_sustainable

Where it all began. We started our journey as regenerative farmers on this beautiful land in Northern NSW. Our first goal was to increase our soil biology to improve the heath of our land, our animals and us. This lead us to making Fish Hydrolysate.
