The Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute in Ballarat is doing important cancer research regional Victoria.

Their team works on the science behind better treatments and outcomes for cancer patients and their families. It's slow, careful work that rarely makes headlines, but it's the kind of work that changes the future for people facing a diagnosis.

We've supported the Institute for years. The cause hits close to home for our team, like it does for almost every Australian family, and regional research centres deserve the same backing the bigger city ones get.

Quick question for any first home buyers reading this.

Did you know stamp duty on a brand new home is calculated differently to an established one?

When you sign your building contract before construction starts, stamp duty is generally calculated on the land component, not the finished house. For a lot of our customers, that adds up to a meaningful saving before the First Home Owner Grant or any concessions even come into play.

It's one of the biggest reasons building a new home stacks up well against buying established, and it's the part most first home buyers have never heard of.

A feature wall is permission to have a personality.

Most bedrooms play it safe. White on white, neutral on neutral, the same photo you've seen a hundred times on Pinterest. A feature wall breaks that.

One bold choice behind the bed, and suddenly the room has a point of view.

Botanical print. Deep navy ground. Greens that pull straight from the window. It works because everything else stays quiet and lets the wall do the talking.

Good orientation costs nothing. Poor orientation costs you every winter.

When your living room is facing north, it's catching the low winter sun and letting it warm the slab for free.

By 10am, your floorboards are doing the work your heater would normally do.

It's one of the oldest tricks in Australian home design. And it still beats anything you can plug in.
