Making the invisible visible in complex industrial environments.

At a recent oil refinery project in New Zealand, Sub Surface Detection Ltd Est 2010 & UTILITY DETECTION & MAPPING combined the power of the IDS GeoRadar ecosystem to transform large volumes of subsurface data into meaningful engineering intelligence.

Using their IDS GeoRadar Stream DP multi-array GPR, high-density subsurface data was rapidly captured across the site, enabling fast, non-destructive investigation of complex underground conditions.

The real power comes after capture.

By leveraging IQ Maps and AI Maps 2.0, we were able to process and interrogate enormous datasets more efficiently, assisting with interpretation and identifying underground features with greater consistency. UDM then undertook 3D modelling and target feature extraction, converting raw geophysical data into visual, spatially intelligent outputs that support planning and decision making.

From data capture → AI-assisted interpretation → 3D subsurface modelling.

Not just locating utilities — building a smarter understanding of what lies below.

UDM – Making the invisible visible.

🚐⚡ Making the Invisible, Visible ⚡🚐

At Utility Detection & Mapping (UDM), we continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in subsurface investigation using the powerful IDS GeoRadar Stream UP Mobile GPR system.

Our Stream UP allows us to rapidly capture high-density underground data at traffic speed, helping clients identify:
✔ Unknown utilities
✔ Old stormwater and drainage infrastructure
✔ Voids and subsurface anomalies
✔ Pavement thickness and layers
✔ Legacy services and buried assets
✔ Risk areas before construction begins

“Making the Invisible, Visible.”

Jack Spurr is new to our senior squad at Grenadiers Basketball Club and has jumped head first into the club. Jack is an important member of our senior squad whilst also being part of our U16 boys coaching team.

We are fortunate to have UDM sponsor Jack for the 2026 senior season. UDM are huge supporters of Grenadiers Basketball Club and we are incredibly grateful.

UDM is a specialist team that uncovers and maps underground services, delivering clarity, accuracy, and confidence before construction begins. They offer a huge range of services in multiple locations. Check them out here - https://udmgroup.com.au/

Personally, this is something I’ve wanted to bring together for a long time—seeing mobile mapping and subsurface GPR working side by side in a single workflow. To now have this setup live and operating is a big moment for UDM.

Thank you C.R Kennedy

UDM is excited to be deploying both the Leica Pegasus TRK700 and Stream UP Mobile GPR this week across Tasmania on a range of projects.

This combination is a game changer—capturing high-speed mobile reality data above ground, while simultaneously mapping subsurface conditions with multi-channel GPR.

By integrating Pegasus TRK700 with Stream UP, we are delivering a true end-to-end spatial solution—linking surface and subsurface data into one cohesive dataset.

This is where the industry is heading—real-time, high-density data capture that supports better design, planning, and asset management outcomes.

Powered by Hexagon | Leica Geosystems and IDS GeoRadar technology, UDM continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the geospatial and subsurface space.

Watch this space as we continue making the invisible visible.

8 Years of Making the Invisible Visible 🚧🌏

A big week for UTILITY DETECTION & MAPPING

April 16 marks a birthday for Managing Director Rod Brumby
And April 18 marks 8 years of UDM.

From a one-man band to a team of 15 operating across Tasmania, throughout Australia, and beyond — the growth has been significant.

But it’s never just been about growth.

It’s been about building something with purpose.
From day one, the focus has been clear:
not just locating utilities — but changing how the underground is understood.

Making the Invisible Visible.

That mindset has driven everything:
•Investing in leading-edge technology
•Taking on complex and challenging environments
•Delivering accurate, data-driven outcomes for better decisions
•Building a team that takes pride in every job

These photos reflect that journey — boots on the ground, working in tough conditions, pushing into new spaces, and constantly evolving.

That’s leadership.
That’s vision.

And it’s only the beginning.

Proud of what’s been built over the past 8 years - and even more focused on what’s ahead.

The power of AI-driven subsurface intelligence is real.

This video shows underground services located using IDS Stream DP GPR, processed in IQMaps, and enhanced with AI Maps by IDS GeoRadar.

The result?

Clearer insight below ground, reduced risk before design and construction, and better protection of critical infrastructure for the future.

At UDM, we love uncovering what lies beneath -
Making the invisible, Visible!

The Tasmania JackJumpers community has raised more than $225,000 for gynaecological cancer support during the club’s annual Teal Game in Hobart.

The fundraiser, run by Support, Hope and Education (SHE), will help fund Tasmania’s planned Cancer Wellness Centre and support affected families.

SHE’s Scott Harris said the response showed strong community unity, while JackJumpers coach Scott Roth described it as his most meaningful game of the year.

Chemist Warehouse contributed $165,000, with additional funds raised through auctions and teal seat purchases.
