Something a little different from us…

Every Wednesday, Jamie’s jumping on for a quick Hump Day Q&A — no script, no filter and no bu****it. 😂

Snorkel Talk 🎙️ | N80 Hilux Updates

Jamie dives into some of the common issues we’ve identified with the factory Toyota snorkel and airbox design, while taking you through the latest improvements to our JMAX N80 Hilux snorkel kits.

Both our 4” and 5” JMAX snorkels are designed to cover the pre-existing factory snorkel opening, with our 5” design completely concealing the main opening and all factory bolt holes for a clean, seamless finish.

We’ve also made some major upgrades across both our 4” and 5” kits:

🔧 Integrated one-way water drainage system
🔧 Updated OEM-spec MAF sensor housing with internal airflow straightening fins
🔧 Reworked pillar angles for improved fitment and precise alignment
🔧 Completely updated intake plumbing using silicone joiners and solid stainless-steel piping — eliminating flexi duct from the system

At JMAX, we’re constantly reviewing, testing and refining our products to improve fitment, functionality and overall design.

These N80 Hilux updates have been on the cards for a while, and we’re excited to finally share the improvements with you.

Cheers,
The JMAX Team

Low-Cut vs Standard Top Snorkel
What’s the difference?

One of the most frequently asked questions we get is: What’s the difference between a low-cut and a standard top snorkel?

SNEAK PEEK 👀
Nissan GU 5” FATBOY’s - Coming Soon…

This in-depth video demonstrates the differences, advantages, and disadvantages between the two styles.

🔹 Standard Top
Traditional rear-facing stainless snorkel head

When you think of a stainless snorkel, this is typically the design and style that comes to mind.

💚 Advantages

Rear-facing = Minimal debris and water ingress (when designed correctly)
Noise = Typically a little quieter, as the sound travels up and over the roofline (depending on make and model)
Looks = Some people simply prefer the traditional stainless steel snorkel look
💔 Disadvantages

Clearance = Due to the height of the snorkel, this style can genuinely cause clearance issues with roof racks, awnings, sunvisors, and light bar brackets.
🔹 Low-Cut / Tear Drop Top
Stylish low-profile snorkel top
( Created and designed by the JMAX team 2015 )

💚 Advantages

Clearance = A low-cut snorkel sits much lower than a traditional standard top, helping eliminate fitment issues with roof racks, awnings, sunvisors, and light bar brackets.
Looks = A modern, aggressive style that sits flush with the top of the window, giving the snorkel a sleek, compact, and blended appearance.
Water Ingress = This style faces outward towards the road, which can be a major benefit on driver-side snorkels.
Noise = Some customers actually love hearing the intake and turbo sound this style produces.
💔 Disadvantages

Noise = The biggest downside is intake noise for customers who prefer a quieter driving experience. This is an easy fix with our JMAX Snorkel Silencer.
