Twelve months ago, we were filling ponds. Today, we are producing salt.

Our FY26 Annual Report is out, and it covers the year Mardie became a working salt operation.

🧂 FY27 is the year we will harvest salt, complete construction and load our first ship. It's the year everything we've built starts delivering revenue.

Big news from Mardie. We have awarded the contract to build a pilot plant that will test whether we can turn a byproduct of our salt operation into sulphate of potash (SOP), a premium fertiliser used on high value crops here and overseas.

Australia currently imports almost all of its SOP. If the pilot is successful, Mardie has the potential to become the only operation in the country producing both salt and SOP on one site.

Managing Director, David Boshoff, said: “The SOP pilot plant is an important next step in BCI’s disciplined approach to maximising the value of the Mardie resource.”

How do you turn the Indian Ocean into one of the world's purest industrial salts? ☀️🌊

At Mardie, the answer is sun, wind and time. Seawater moves through our evaporation pond network, now averaging ~98% of design operating height and steadily concentrating until the brine reaches the crystallisers, where salt precipitates naturally.

In the June quarter, we completed the fill of our first crystalliser train and began filling the second. With densities building, salt growth has commenced in line with the plan.

This past quarter, BCI awarded the sulphate of potash (SOP) pilot plant FEED study to Bluestar Lehigh Engineering Institute Co., Ltd, following evaluation of submissions from SOP industry specialists. Procurement for pilot plant construction is progressing in parallel, with the construction contract expected to be awarded in the September 2026 quarter.

Our KTMS trial crystallisers remain on track to deliver the tonnages required for the pilot plant trials.

Mardie is designed to produce around 140ktpa of premium SOP, a high-value fertiliser essential for food production in water-constrained environments.

As BCI's People and Culture Officer, she looks after the behind-the-scenes engine room of the business: the systems, the performance reporting, and now the administration behind the company's training.

Her theory of culture is refreshingly unfussy: get the right people in, and the rest follows. The camaraderie, the fun Fridays, the "let's build it together" attitude.

122,220 tonnes of crystallised salt! That's what's sitting in the crystallisers at Mardie today.

Seawater in, sun and wind doing the work, with salt forming on the crystallisers' floor. When enough salt has crystallised, harvest comes next. Then washing, then stockpiling, then a very long jetty.

At full production, Mardie is designed to be one of the largest solar salt operations in the world.

Congratulations to Justin Tupper, one of our process operators, who took out first prize in BCI's Soccer World Cup draw. The draw was open to anyone across the business who wanted in, and delivered a healthy dose of competition from the sidelines.

Justin's reward? A football signed by Perth Glory for his boys. A nice local touch.

Whether it is a lunchroom sweepstake or salt crystallising at Mardie, we reckon the good workplaces are the ones where people actually want to show up and kick goals!

Some quarters, progress is a number on a page. This one, you can hold in your hand. 🧂

After months of sunshine, evaporation and a bit of patience, salt is now crystallising at Mardie and we closed the June quarter with 49,000 tonnes of it.

A few other things worth their salt this quarter:
🔹 Construction reached 85% complete, still on budget, still fully funded
🔹 Steel cut on the Mardie Spirit, our 16,000 DWT transhipment vessel
🔹 The jetty now 95% complete
