CONTENT WARNING: animal neglect, euthanasia.
Yesterday we read a post from our friends at Dunroaminpets INC Animal Rescue about a property in our region, and it absolutely broke us. Behind every cute adoption photo is a reality most people never see: sick, frightened animals in terrible conditions, and a small rescue team doing everything they can to end their suffering.
Dunroamin is a local, volunteer-run rescue that takes in cats and dogs from pounds and surrenders, desexes, rehabilitates and rehomes them, and runs community desexing programs to break the cycle of unwanted litters. They are there when no one else is – often at enormous emotional and financial cost.
As a local solar and battery business, we talk every day about cleaner, brighter futures. The truth is, there’s no bright future if we turn away from the people on the front line of animal welfare in our own backyard.
So for the month of April, we’re making this pledge:
For every solar or battery system booked with us between 1–30 April, we will donate a portion of the proceeds directly towards Dunroamin’s running costs – vet bills, medications, food, desexing and emergency rescues.
At the end of April, we’ll make an additional lump-sum donation and share the total with you all so you can see the impact this community has made together.
If you’ve been thinking about installing solar or adding a battery, April is a chance to do something good for your home and for animals who desperately need a second chance.
If solar isn’t on your radar right now, you can still help by following Dunroamin, sharing their posts, and donating directly if you’re able. Every single dollar counts for them.
To the team at Dunroamin: we see you, we believe you, and we are so sorry you’re going through this. Thank you for showing up for every scared, forgotten soul when it would be easier to look away.
To the staff at Holbrook Vet Centre, thank you for the compassion and care you give these animals at their most vulnerable moments.
We hope this pledge helps, even a little, to carry the load.
MY DAY
Theres is a property in a very affluent area in Wodonga.
She made conract with us a few years ago at this time we took in some wild kittens through a Wodonga Vet.
The reality for these kittens was harsh.
Some ended up with neoruoligal issues.
It was heartbreaking to work so hard to gain their trust to then say goodbye.
At this time Wodonga Council were involved we had no idea of the reality.
This person rang me saying there was now maybe 70 or 80 cats there.
Today I took a drive.
With an open mind I walked about for 5 minutes.
To say the suffering is immense is an understatement.
12 cats were euthenased by us today at Holbrook Vet Centre .
After talking to this person theres likely over 100 on the property.
We are returning tomorrow and the next and the next until we are able to end the suffering of these innocent souls.
Within 5 minutes I was shaking sobbing simply couldnt believe a person could walk amongst these innocent beings having no problem watching them die such a horrible death.
I have rung Council twice today for assistance ...
RSPCA are fully aware of this situation.
Lots of carrriers will be dropped off tomorrow and more lives with end lots more innocent lives.
I sit here and feel this overwhelming feeling of sadness.
Its an easier emotion than anger and pure contempt for me right now.
There is no excuse none at all for this cruelty.
Those that passed today some fitted in front of me I gave them a cuddle they were covered in my tears as I promised them their pain would soon be over.
I shook this persons hand and thanked them for breaking me yes rescue has become just too hard you finally broke my spirit a spirit who can only do so much.
A heart thats sick and tired of being broken.
Our doors are closed now except for those we have committed to and we adopt out 100 of the 180 precious kittens we have in our care.
Those that say we are lacking in compassion or understanding
Stand up do better than us.
People have NO concept of the reality yet so quick to judge.
I guess my crime was always trying to keep our page a happy place .
Maybe just maybe had I shared the reality sooner may have made a difference ?
Honestly dont know.
To the GENUINE people out there needing to surrender I am sorry.
The next couple of weeks are going to be so fu***ng hard.
But Dunroamin cant walk away from this situation until every single innocent victim is at peace.
To the staff at Holbrook Vet Centre I am so sorry.
To the pussycats there will be a kinder place with no.pain this we can promise .
