Dhaka North City Corporation has launched Bangladesh’s largest Miyawaki urban forest in Uttara, planting over 39,000 trees across 2.60 acres near Diabari Bridge. The project features nearly 250 native species and soil specially enriched with vermicompost, bone meal and organic fertiliser, following the Miyawaki method developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki. His approach plants diverse native species densely together, producing forests that grow far faster than conventional plantations. Combined with the first phase’s 14,000 trees, the project is part of a five-year plan targeting 500,000 trees, aiming to address Dhaka’s worsening air, water and soil pollution.
