Surat, a port city in India, has been shaped by its geography at the meeting point of the Tapti River and the Arabian Sea.
But climate disasters like flooding now threaten its future.
To address this, local authorities initiated the Dumas Sea Wall Project, an initiative combining seawalls, green promenades, and cycle paths designed to protect communities.
The project is expected to benefit 12.2 million residents while reducing CO₂ emissions by 35.9 million tonnes.
