🗼 Eiffel Tower – A Marvel of Structural Engineering

The Eiffel Tower is one of the greatest wonders of structural engineering. It was the tallest steel structure in the world when it was completed, with a height of 1,082 feet (330 meters).
Remarkably, the entire structure was designed using hand calculations, as it was built between 1887 and 1889—long before the invention of computers and structural design software. Even cranes were not available at that time. Despite these limitations, the tower was constructed with millimeter-level precision.
The structure consists of 18,038 individual metal parts, which were assembled using approximately 2.5 million rivets. An extraordinary achievement of this project was that no workers lost their lives during its construction.
At the top of the tower, strong winds can cause a deflection (sway) of about 6 inches. During World War I, the tower was used as a telecommunications antenna. It later inspired the development of modern tall communication and mobile towers that we see today.
Interestingly, when the tower was first built, many people criticized and mocked it. However, over time, it became a symbol of pride for France. Today, many countries have built replicas of the Eiffel Tower, and millions of tourists from around the world visit it every year.
It remains a timeless example of engineering excellence and human creativity.
