In 1991, when Ratan Tata took over from his mentor-uncle JRD Tata as Chairman of Tata Group, he began restructuring the group at a time when Indian economic liberalisation was underway. Under his leadership, the Tata Group underwent a remarkable transformation, Ratan Tata played a key role with his philanthropic efforts in various sectors, including healthcare, technology, disaster relief and social welfare.
