The public space surrounding Brasschaat’s former city hall has been thoroughly redesigned.
By reducing and re-organising roads, enhancing spatial coherence and introducing a unifying surface, the formerly discontinuous and cluttered area regains its potential to become the local community’s physical and emotional centrepiece.
A mineral blanket in dark terracotta bricks with white crosshair markers is the setting for the urban play of buildings, monuments and trees, parking spots, a memorial, fountains, benches and bicycle stand and many more.
All rainwater is captured and reused on site to empower existing and new trees, cooling fountains and a water garden designed to retain heavy rainfall and prevent flooding.
The city centre is now again a civic gathering area, a mineral oasis amidst the overwhelming greenery of Brasschaat.

The concrete base of the TSS is designed to induce & attract moss growth. It forms a low-tech, nature-inclusive building shell. The results, which we now measure and analyse after ten years on-site, are surprisingly accurate with what we wanted them to be, without any intervention from our site. Nature did it.
‘Inducting moss growth’ means we have designed the best conditions for Bryophyta:
° The formwork was made with different wooden plank thicknesses & hights, which created ridges for moss to grow (or hang)
° A CEM3B concrete compound was used, which induces a more ph-neutral surface than standard concrete.
° The concrete composition was made slightly porous, causing (air)holes to appear on the surface. No plasticizers were used.

These days, the ridges are filled with Bryophyta’s. The mosses hang at the bottom of the ridges and thus absorb all the moisture. They have become green drip moldings.
They change colour depending on the weather and seasons. During heat waves, they encapsulate themselves. They form a biotope for insects, which in turn create a biotope for the bats of Fort 5.
The process will still undergo a significant transformation, therefore, to be seen as in constant metamorphosis.

In Ledeberg, along the shore of the Schelde, .be assigned Compagnie-O to design family housing, student housing, offices and commercial spaces. You might already know the site located by the Schelderoute as the summer bar . A former tannery will be renovated to house spaces for offices, artists or small crafts. One of which will display an original . A lot of concrete will make way for shared gardens amidst the new program. The Loskaai will be widened and transformed into a better connection to the bicycle highway in the green climate axis 4 Bovenschelde. The project marks the start of the revival of the industrial site spanned between the railroad and the Schelde, taking a setback to the river to make room for new big trees providing shadow and cooling to the cyclists and pedestrians.

Polyvalent Pavilion is the expansion of our school design for mentally and physically disabled children ‘De Leerexpert’ in Brasschaat as commissioned bij Stedelijk Onderwijs Antwerpen and VESPA.

In contrast to everyday school life, the pavilion is to be understood as a ‘freehaven’ where the children, who are usually very sensitive to outside impulses, can be exposed to stimuli discretely controlled. The pavilion contains a small gymnasium, workshop atelier and multimedia space.
Set at a distance from the protective school environment, this free-standing pavilion amidst a meadow, surrounded by trees and ditches, is part of the intention to challenge and expand the limited world of the children.
Because of its role as a sweet instigator, the pavilion has a sensorial identity: a bright blue monobloc wrapped by a graceful, twisted fanning canopy. This canopy lingers in and outside in different angles and provides shelter to enjoy crafting and playing outside for a change.
