Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz, on social media and in mainstream outlets, about one of the fastest growing education institutes and a closely connected professional in our community. I’m choosing not to mention names, le a itse, but I want to address a question that came up on a local radio show, “Are Batswana generally a community that doesn’t support one another?”
From the calls I heard, it seems many people feel we’re quick to pull others down or to point out flaws. While that may be the impression on the surface, I believe there’s much more to the story.
Truth is, many of the most successful Batswana businesses have thrived with strong support from Batswana communities. We’ve also seen that in the arts and sports. Batswana are deeply emotional in their support, when we rally behind someone, we pour our hearts into it. We’re also driven by a standard of excellence; we appreciate top quality and aren’t afraid to speak up when someone loses their way. That passion can sometimes come across as harsh, not knowing how to express frustration in the moment.
So, are there individuals who try to pull others down? Yes, there are. They’re a small subset, but they can be very vocal and may seem to represent all of us. If you know your story and can show the numbers, revenue, impact, outcomes, let the results speak for the support Batswana have given you. Responding to criticism, especially with emotion, often isn’t productive. Let the numbers tell the story.
With that in mind, a quick reminder, we’re just 13 days away from our grand tour finale on October 18 at Oasis Hotel. I’d love to see you there. To get your ticket, please WhatsApp the phrase “grand finale” to 78 440 408 and we’ll take care of the rest.
Remember, every challenge brings with a new opportunity.
