The Morupule Coal Mine (MCM) Citizen Economic Empowerment Programme (CEEP) proudly participated in the 5th Annual Labour Conference, held under the theme: โTurning Law Into Practice: Implementing the Employment and Labour Relations Act in a Digital Transformation Economy.โ
The conference highlighted an important reality: meaningful economic transformation cannot be achieved without workplaces that are fair, inclusive, productive and underpinned by sound labour practices. As Botswana advances its citizen economic empowerment agenda, labour legislation becomes more than a framework for compliance; it becomes a catalyst for building sustainable citizen-owned enterprises, creating quality jobs, developing skills and strengthening local value chains.
For citizen businesses, embracing progressive labour practices enhances competitiveness, improves productivity, attracts investment, and positions enterprises for long-term participation in both local and global supply chains. Strong labour relations are therefore fundamental to building resilient businesses capable of driving Botswanaโs industrialisation and economic diversification.
CEEP Coordinator, Ms. Tirelo Ramasedi, reflected on the significance of the conference:
