🐶🐱 Love your pets. Not the allergens they leave behind.

If you're constantly sneezing, dealing with itchy eyes, or waking up congested, your pet may not be the only reason.

Pet dander, fine dust, and microscopic allergens can stay suspended in your home's air for hours and settle into carpets, furniture, and vents. Even with regular cleaning, they can continue circulating throughout your home.

At AirGuys, we help reduce the airborne particle load in your entire home using hospital-grade air treatment and air quality monitoring, so you can breathe easier without giving up the pets you love.

🏡 Your home can look spotless... but what does the air look like?

Every day, your family breathes thousands of litres of air indoors. Dust, smoke, cooking fumes, cleaning products, furniture, and poor ventilation can quietly affect your home's air quality.

Here are some healthy indoor air targets to aim for:

✅ PM2.5: Under 15 µg/m³
✅ CO₂: Under 800 ppm
✅ Carbon Monoxide (CO): 0 ppm (anything above 9 ppm needs attention)
✅ TVOCs: Under 200 ppb
✅ Formaldehyde (HCHO): Under 50 ppb

If your readings are consistently above these levels, it may be time to identify the source rather than just masking the symptoms.

At AirGuys, we measure your home's air quality before and after treatment, helping reduce airborne particles and chemical pollutants with hospital-grade HEPA and activated carbon filtration.

🌬️ Know what's in your air before it affects your health.

🚨 New furniture can hide something manufacturers don't tell you about.

It may look beautiful, but some new furniture can release formaldehyde and other airborne chemicals into your home for weeks or even months.

We recently inspected a home in NE Calgary after the homeowners noticed a strong "new furniture" smell.

Our air quality assessment found:

✅ PM1.0, PM2.5 & PM10: Healthy
⚠️ Formaldehyde (HCHO): Elevated (up to 0.265 mg/m³)
⚠️ TVOC: Elevated in the kitchen
⚠️ CO₂: Higher than recommended, indicating ventilation could be improved

After discussing recent changes, the homeowners had recently purchased several new furniture items. Furniture made with engineered wood, glues, and laminates can release formaldehyde and other VOCs during the first weeks or months.

What we did

• Measured air quality room by room
• Identified the rooms with elevated readings
• Performed a whole-home Air Reset
• Verified the air quality after treatment
• Recommended returning the furniture suspected to be contributing to the elevated formaldehyde levels
• Recommended continued air quality monitoring

🛑 Your furnace filter wasn't designed to clean the air you breathe.

Most homeowners believe that changing their furnace filter means they're cleaning the air in their home.

The truth is... that's only a small part of the story.

A standard 1-inch furnace filter is primarily there to protect your furnace by stopping large dust particles, pet hair, and debris from coating the blower motor and heat exchanger.

It was never designed to remove the tiny particles that affect your health.

These microscopic pollutants can continue circulating through your home:
• PM2.5 from cooking, candles, and wildfire smoke
• Fine dust that stays suspended for hours
• Pollen and mold spores
• Smoke particles
• Many volatile organic compounds (VOCs) released from paints, furniture, cleaning products, and renovations

There's another challenge.

To protect your furnace, airflow is critical. If you install a very restrictive filter, your furnace has to work harder, which can reduce efficiency and, in some systems, even cause performance issues. That's why many homes use filters that strike a balance between equipment protection and airflow—not maximum air purification.

Protecting your furnace and protecting your lungs are two different jobs.

That's why we always recommend measuring your indoor air quality instead of guessing. We assess particles, CO₂, VOCs, formaldehyde, temperature, and humidity before recommending any solution.

🚧 Your renovation might be finished... but the air isn't.

Fresh paint, new flooring, drywall, adhesives, and cabinetry can continue releasing fine dust and airborne chemicals long after the contractors leave.

If you're noticing lingering dust, odors, allergies, or irritation after a renovation, it may be time for a professional air reset.

Have you ever noticed a “new furniture” smell? That’s off‑gassing. Building materials and furnishings, especially pressed wood products, carpets and adhesives release chemicals over time, also known as off‑gassing.

These emissions can contribute to “sick building syndrome,” causing headaches and fatigue in poorly ventilated homes. When buying new furniture or renovating, look for low‑emission materials certified by independent organisations.

Let new items air out in a well‑ventilated space before bringing them inside. Off‑gassing slows as products age, but proper ventilation and air purification can accelerate the process and protect your indoor environment.

The air in your home doesn't have to stay invisible or unhealthy.

According to the Silent Spring Institute, everyday items like televisions, furniture, beauty and cleaning products and flooring materials shed chemicals that end up in the air and dust in our homes.

We spend more than 90 % of our time indoors, so these chemicals can enter our bodies through breathing, touching contaminated surfaces or even transferring dust to food.

Choosing products labeled low‑VOC, solid wood furniture without pressed‑wood composites, and natural fibres can reduce chemical shedding. Wash your hands after cleaning and before eating to avoid transferring dust to your mouth. Small choices add up to healthier indoor air.

The air in your home doesn't have to stay invisible or unhealthy.

We love the smell of a good stir‑fry, but cooking releases more than aroma. Researchers from Colorado State University found that indoor air contained many more known and potential air toxics than outdoor air, especially during cooking.

Their HOMEChem experiment detected familiar toxins like benzene and formaldehyde as well as lesser‑known compounds like acrolein a pulmonary toxicant emitted by heated fats and isocyanic acid, which reacts with proteins in the body.

Some of these compounds reach levels similar to wildfire smoke when we sauté or fry.

Use your stove’s exhaust hood, open a window and avoid burning oil to reduce the build‑up of these chemicals. Good ventilation during cooking keeps delicious smells in and harmful pollutants out.

The air in your home doesn't have to stay invisible or unhealthy.

Many household items emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs)gases released from paints, varnishes, aerosol sprays, cleansers, cosmetics, adhesives and even craft supplies.

The U.S. EPA notes that concentrations of these chemicals are often up to ten times higher indoors and can remain elevated long after you’ve finished cleaning or painting.

Short‑term effects can include
1. Irritation of the eyes, nose and throat,
2. Headaches and dizziness,
3. While long‑term exposure can damage the liver or central nervous system.

The next time you reach for a fragranced cleaner, choose low‑VOC or fragrance‑free options, open a window and turn on a fan. Minimizing indoor chemical fumes is an easy way to protect your health.
