🏗️ STEEL DETAILING TIP: Not All Structural Steel Gets the Same Finish
Did you know that structural steel within the same building can have different surface-finish requirements?
On this project, most structural steel receives the specified shop primer, while designated members at the second-floor area are required to remain BARE / NO PAINT for spray-applied fireproofing.
In our 3D detailing view, these members are shown in a different color so the finish requirement can be easily identified and properly communicated for fabrication.
Shop Primed âžś Specified coating
Bare / No Paint âžś Spray-applied fireproofing area
It may seem like a small detail, but identifying these requirements correctly helps prevent the wrong finish from being applied in the shop and avoids unnecessary rework.
Good steel detailing goes beyond dimensions and connections — every detail matters from the model to fabrication and er****on.
