Three days ago, LinkedIn reminded me that Droneworx hit its one-year mark and that I’ve officially been self-employed for a year. I figured I’d share it here on Facebook as well. It’s a milestone I’m proud of, especially after a slower stretch that tested patience and persistence more than I expected.
I’ll be honest, it took me a bit to even decide what to post because of what happened in Tumbler Ridge. This anniversary lands in a moment that feels heavy. The recent tragedy there hit close to home in a very real way. It’s the kind of event that shakes a community and reminds you how quickly life can change. Being a husband and a dad with kids in school, and with my wife teaching at a school, it’s impossible not to think about the families, teachers, and neighbors affected. Small northern communities are closely knit, and when something like this happens, everyone feels the impact. My thoughts are with those directly impacted and with the broader community as they support one another.
This past year has been about building something from the ground up, learning fast, adapting, and staying committed even when progress didn’t look the way I imagined. Moments like this are a reminder that business milestones matter, but people and community matter more.
Since the middle of January, things have picked up in a way I’m thankful for, and I’m hopeful that momentum continues. Some promising opportunities are emerging, including collaborations with major infrastructure partners, that indicate a strong year ahead. I’m grateful for the trust people have placed in Droneworx and for the support behind the scenes that makes it all possible. Moving into year two, the goal is to stay busy, keep delivering, and keep building something solid for the long term.
