Last week, we took part in Quw'utsun Sta'lo' Skweyul in Crofton. Almost 300 people attended! Our Crofton mill had an interactive station to showcase the operation of mill from raw materials to finished products. The Cowichan Tribes also hosted traditional salmon cooking over open flames. The Cowichan Sinqua Dancers performed, and Elders shared powerful messages. Local leaders, including MP Alistair McGregor, also attended. Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such as success.

We’re proud that our partnership with The Outland Youth Employment Program supports Indigenous youth personally and professionally. Over this summer, 150 youth gained hands-on experience, earned certifications in areas like First Aid, Trail Specialist Training and more. Incredibly, they also planted 118,080 trees! https://paperexcellence.com/creating-opportunities-for-indigenous-youth/

is here!

Responsible forest management not only prevents deforestation, but it also protects ecosystems and endangered species that inhabit the world’s forests.

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) has already accomplished a lot over the last 30 years, and we are proud to be part of its journey as a Certificate Holder. But the mission to protect the world’s biodiversity remains as strong as ever.

Last night in Ottawa an event to celebrate Lana Wilhelm, RPF, Director of Indigenous Relations, drew a forest friendly crowd. Members of Parliament Gord Johns (Courtenay—Alberni) and Alistair MacGregor (Cowichan—Malahat—Langford) both attended. Alistair and Lana reminisced and swapped tree planting stories. Both are proud veteran tree planters with 8 years (Alistair) and 5 years (Lana) of experience of summer work in BC forests. Alistair speaks often about his time planting trees, although politics takes him out of the forest and onto Parliament Hill these days. Both he and Gord are proud supporters of our industry alongside professionals like Lana.
Lana was honoured to receive the Women in Forestry Award of Excellence from the Forest Products Association of Canada prize this morning. More to come on that soon. Congratulations Lana and thank you for all that you do to instill a love of the land and our forests in the next generation of nature lovers and forest professionals in Canada.
