Yesterday, we had the opportunity to host Mayor Lilia Hansen, Councillor Tony Zabinsky, and Councillor Sarah MacDougall from the City of Fort St. John at our Native Plant Orchard.
The visit was an important opportunity to share the story and vision behind Grandmother's Greenhouse, a Blueberry River First Nations-owned business, and the role it is playing in advancing Indigenous-led ecological restoration, environmental stewardship, and economic development throughout Northeast BC.
During the tour, we shared the history of Grandmother's Greenhouse and our connection to Blueberry River First Nations, showcased our native seed collection, propagation, and plant production process, and discussed the importance of locally sourced native plant material in supporting successful reclamation and restoration projects across the region.
As the Native Plant Orchard continues to grow, visits like this help build relationships, increase awareness of Indigenous-led restoration, and highlight the work Blueberry River First Nations is leading to restore the land while creating long-term environmental and economic benefits for the region.
