Winter is coming, and we're bringing a little piece of the mountain right into downtown Kelowna!

My crew and I at HEX Scaffolding Inc. are teaming up with the Rail Jam crew to bring this awesome event to life!

We've been putting some serious work into designing a custom scaffold-supported snowboard and ski rail jam setup, and now it's time to turn those digital plans into something REAL. šŸ’Ŗ

There's a lot more that goes into building a shoring scaffold than just stacking steel!

After calculating the weight of the overhead concrete, structural steel, roofing materials, beam span, and additional snow loads, we determined that this project required a shoring scaffold capable of supporting 52,000 lbs! šŸ’Ŗ

The purpose? To temporarily support the existing structure while our customer removes a load-bearing wall at one end of the beam.

That's 26 tons of potential load that needs to be properly accounted for, supported, and safely transferred.

This is where proper planning, load calculations, scaffold design, and engineering come into play.

Big shoutout to VEVOR Home Improvement Canada šŸ‡ØšŸ‡¦

We picked up this VEVOR 1100 lb electric cable hoist with a 30 m cable, and honestly, this thing made our job a hell of a lot easier.

One of the biggest reasons we grabbed it was the 2.2ā€ hooks, they fit perfectly around our scaffold tubes, which made integrating it into our scaffold system super simple.

In this video, we put it to work lifting a 30ā€ diameter garbage chute approximately 30 ft tall. Each 4 ft section weighs roughly 36 lb, putting the chute at around 270 lb total.

We hooked the hoist into our scaffold system, lifted the chute into position, and it handled the job beautifully.

Simple setup. Strong little unit. Huge labour saver.

Weā€™re pretty damn happy with it.

Paulā€™s been with Hex Scaffolding for a good while now. He came to us as a first-year apprentice, put in the work, learned the trade, and now heā€™s well on his way to becoming a Journeyman Scaffolder.

Itā€™s been pretty damn cool watching the progression.

More importantly, Paulā€™s a good friend, a good father, and one hell of a teammate. The kind of guy youā€™re happy to have beside you on a tough job.

And at about 6'4", heā€™s also extremely useful when the rest of the crew is 5'7" and under šŸ˜‚ Sometimes we donā€™t even need another liftā€¦ we just need Paul.
