Featured in New Civil Engineer: Haply technology helping power the future of nuclear decommissioning.
At Sellafield — one of the UK’s most complex nuclear sites — a quadruped robot successfully completed radiological contamination swabbing inside a simulated spill zone, operated using a commercial haptic controller from Haply Robotics.
By capturing an operator’s hand movements in real time and translating them into precise, non-linear swabbing motions, the system enabled accurate sample collection without requiring personnel to enter hazardous areas.
Developed in collaboration with RAICo and Sellafield Ltd, this field trial demonstrates how intuitive haptic control brings true human dexterity to robotic platforms in high-consequence environments.
For critical industries where safety, precision, and reliability are non-negotiable, haptics isn’t just an interface — it’s mission-enabling technology.
We’re proud to see Haply technology supporting safer, faster, and more cost-effective nuclear operations.
