🤝 A new step forward for organics recovery and wastewater co-digestion in California.

CCI BioEnergy and Fairfield-Suisun Sewer District (FSSD) have signed a term sheet to advance a new organics receiving and processing facility at FSSD’s wastewater treatment plant in Fairfield, California.

The proposed facility would prepare additional organic waste streams for co-digestion in FSSD’s existing anaerobic digesters, helping the district produce more biogas and get more value from infrastructure already in place.

Reliable co-digestion starts with effective pre-treatment. CCI’s receiving and processing station is designed to remove physical contaminants, including grit, glass, and plastics, before material reaches the digesters, helping protect critical equipment, preserve digester capacity, and support dependable operation.

“This is an opportunity to bring the solid waste and wastewater sectors together in a practical way,” said William Selten, President of CCI BioEnergy. “With the right organics processing technology, wastewater agencies can make better use of their existing digesters, recover more energy, and help their communities keep organic material out of landfills.”

By creating additional capacity to process diverted organics, the proposed facility would also support California’s SB 1383 goals.

That’s a wrap on Value of Biogas West 2026! 🌱

Over three days in Vancouver, CCI BioEnergy President William Selten joined industry leaders at the Canadian Biogas Association’s conference to explore the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of biogas and renewable natural gas in Canada.

From emerging biomethane markets and Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations to project financing, risk management, and lessons from recent North American developments, the discussions reinforced an important theme:

A strong market opportunity still needs a strong project behind it.

One key takeaway was the growing importance of Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) credits in supporting project economics and their connection to securing financing, which remains one of the industry's biggest challenges.

Supportive policies, financing, and growing demand can help move projects forward, but long-term success ultimately depends on how well those projects are designed, integrated, and operated.

Understanding feedstock variability, selecting the right technologies, and making informed engineering decisions early are essential to turning promising opportunities into reliable, high-performing facilities.

📍 Value of Biogas West 2026 is underway in Vancouver!

William Selten is representing CCI BioEnergy this week at the Canadian Biogas Association’s Value of Biogas West Conference, connecting with industry leaders from across Canada and around the world.

Today’s discussions are highlighting just how many factors now shape a successful biogas project, from emerging markets for biomethane and environmental attributes to regulation, project risk, financing, and long-term economics.

For CCI, it reinforces an important point: a strong market opportunity still needs a strong project behind it.

Turning organic waste into reliable energy and resource recovery means connecting the business case with the practical realities of feedstock variability, process design, technology integration, and long-term operation.

With more discussions ahead on project finance, Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations, new North American biogas projects, and next-generation upgrading technologies, there is plenty more to learn and discuss.

Throughout WEFTEC 2026, we asked wastewater professionals one simple question:

🤔What are your biggest headaches with solids handling?

The answers on our board told an interesting story.

Grit and solids contamination came up repeatedly, but so did digester capacity and cleanout costs, equipment wear and maintenance, odor control, PFAS, biosolids disposal costs, and the challenges associated with accepting third-party feedstocks.

Different challenges, but often interconnected parts of the same solids handling system.

That was one of our biggest takeaways from WEFTEC this year. Improving performance isn't always about adding more infrastructure. Sometimes it starts with understanding what is entering the process, where it is creating problems, and how those impacts carry through the rest of the facility.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by Booth 6657, added a drop to our board, and shared what you're dealing with. We came away from New Orleans with plenty of great conversations to continue.

At CCI BioEnergy, we’re fortunate to work with people across the solid waste and wastewater industries who put that commitment into practice every day.

Whether it’s keeping a facility operating through an unexpected challenge, maintaining the infrastructure our communities depend on, finding a better way to solve a persistent problem, or planning the next generation of essential infrastructure, there are a lot of hardworking people behind the systems most of us rarely have to think about.

As the Summer 2026 co-op term comes to an end, we’d like to recognize Hargun Raina and thank him for his contributions to CCI BioEnergy over the past four months.

Throughout his term, Hargun supported a wide range of marketing initiatives, from developing digital and social media content to supporting industry events, communications, website updates, and marketing analytics.

His work helped strengthen CCI’s digital presence and contributed to how we share our technology, projects, and expertise with the organics and wastewater industries.

Beyond the projects completed, Hargun’s co-op term was an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a highly technical industry, collaborate with the CCI team, and take on new challenges across different areas of marketing.

Filling in for his position, CCI is pleased to announce that Rama Bhindi will be taking over for his position as the new Marketing and Communications Coordinator.

Rama's experience in animation, UX design, short and long form content creation, and videography will help unlock more opportunities for CCI this term. Studying business and digital arts at the University of Waterloo, we hope he will be a great asset to our team and a big step towards our expansion.
