The new IWK Children’s Emergency Department (ED) is bringing advanced diagnostic imaging closer to where it matters most—the point of care.

The ED, scheduled to open in 2027, will house a medical imaging section within the department featuring a computerized tomography (CT) suite and scanner as well as a dedicated general x-ray (XR) room.

This World Ocean Day, we are celebrating signs of hope for the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale.

Calving season recently ended with the highest number of births since 2009, with 23 mother-calf pairs documented by the research team at the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life.

For more than 28 years, we’ve been proud to partner with the New England Aquarium, based in Boston, MA, to support important research on the North Atlantic right whale. Over time, this work has contributed to data and research methods now used to study other marine life across the North Atlantic, helping scientists better understand and monitor health, reproduction and migration.

We thank the team for their leadership and dedication in continuing to deepen our understanding of right whales and supporting efforts to protect the oceans they call home.

Inspired by Dr. Burnell's compassion and dedication, we are honoured to help make this meaningful program accessible for patients and families navigating life-changing challenges.💛

Cancer survivorship is about so much more than finishing treatment.

It is about rebuilding strength. Finding connection. Feeling seen. Learning how to live again after everything has changed. 💛

This Cancer Survivorship Day, we are honouring every patient, survivor, caregiver, clinician, volunteer, and donor who helped build the Dr. Margot Burnell Cancer Support Program into what it is today.

What began as a grassroots vision for whole-person cancer care has grown into a trusted, hospital-connected support program that has helped more than 1,000 patients and family members find hope, healing, and community.

We are deeply grateful to The Arthur L. Irving Family Foundation and Irving Oil whose founding generosity helped make this 100% donor-funded program possible, while recognizing Dr. Margot Burnell’s extraordinary leadership and commitment to compassionate, survivorship-focused care.

Because of this community, patients are reminded every day that they are not alone.

Connecting, learning and giving back. 🌱☀️

In addition to the career skills our students develop during their work terms at Irving Oil, our volunteer opportunities help them build meaningful connections and give back to our communities — like during Wetland Discovery Days, which we recently hosted with children from our local partner schools.

Thank you to Grace and our many other volunteers who joined Ducks Unlimited Canada - Atlantic this week to help inspire and educate youth on the rich biodiversity surrounding our Saint John refinery in the Little River Wetland. It was a great opportunity to spend time with children from our communities and learn about the beauty of nature close to home.
