Prairie Fire Renewable Energy Co-op

Prairie Fire Renewable Energy Co-op The main focus of this initiative is to build renewable energy infrastructure at a large scale to achieve economic feasibility.

Prairie Fire Renewable Energy Cooperative aims to bring individuals together to pool capital to build utility scale renewable energy infrastructure in Saskatchewan. The capital to build on such a scale would be gathered through the forming of a cooperative where individuals would be able to purchase shares of $x. Each member would have one vote on decisions regarding the future of the co-op. Membe

r's may buy more than one share, and be paid monthly or yearly dividends accordingly, but they would only have one vote. Dividends would be derived through the selling of electricity back to SaskPower through a Green Options Partners Program contract or some other agreement. A candidate technology is concentrated solar power. The basis of concentrated solar power involves focusing the sun's rays using mirrors or lenses onto a heat absorber which ultimately heats water to create steam. The steam is run through a turbine which turns a generator and produces AC power to be sold to the electrical grid.
