Some buildings are built to be seen. This one was built to be lived in, between calls, between shifts, in the moments that matter most.

City of Saskatoon's Fire Station No. 5 replaced the aging Sutherland station with a facility built for the people who work there around the clock, classrooms for training, space to stay sharp, and living quarters for the crews who call it home when the bell rings.

It is not the kind of project that gets much attention. It is the kind that keeps a city running.

Four years goes by fast when you are surrounded by people willing to teach you everything they know.

That is the case for Hunter Prokopchuk, a 23 year old journeyman carpenter on our team, whose apprenticeship was shaped by mentors both on site and in the classroom.

The kind of learning that happens when you show up ready to listen.

Happy Thanksgiving from the VCM team.

Thankful for the people who show up on site every day, the projects we have been trusted to build, and the Saskatchewan communities that make room for us while we work in them.

Wishing everyone a safe weekend with the people who matter most.

The Rawlinson Indigenous Student Centre at the University of Saskatchewan.

What was a small gathering space is now open and full of natural light. A place for Indigenous students to connect, study, and build community on campus.

VCM was general contractor, working with the university from start to finish.

Some jobs you are just proud to hand over.

This is what a day on a VCM site looks like.

Different trades, different stages, the same expectation on every one of them.

Show up, do the work right, go home safe.

A walkthrough of the lab space in the College of Engineering

Rooms like this take more coordination than they show. Layout, services, and finishes all have to land exactly where the work inside them demands.

Built for the work that happens in it.

The Rawlinson Centre for Indigenous Business Students.

The ceiling is the first thing you notice. Timber beams radiating out from a single centre point, with the light lines running along them.

Underneath it, a space built to be used every day. A kitchen, open tables on casters, glazed meeting rooms, and daylight carried right through.

Detail like this only lands when the layout and the finishing are done right the first time.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A day to honour the children who never came home, the survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who carry that history forward.

VCM has had the privilege of building alongside First Nations communities across Saskatchewan. Those relationships come with a responsibility to listen, to learn, and to keep showing up.

We are taking today to reflect.

Room 1B71.

What used to be a set of closed-off, dated classrooms is now an open lecture theatre, brought together through significant structural work, including removed concrete tiers and structural walls, to make room for a space that seats over a hundred students.

This is part of our ongoing work with the University of Saskatchewan, a relationship that goes back to 2001.

Some news is better delivered in person.

Denise Gamble, President of Merit Saskatchewan, surprised our own Hunter Prokopchuk on site with the news that he is the 2026 Merit Bursary Award winner, awarded to the top graduating apprentice in his class.

Hunter will be recognized this December at the SATCC awards.

We could not be prouder of Hunter, and we cannot wait to see him accept this one in person.
