Keeping yourself and others safe involves knowing when to toss your shield, and when to reuse it! Here is part 2 of our series, To Toss or Not?

1. Throw away your face shield if the foam band is visibly dirty. Reusing the shield with a dirty foam band may expose you to contaminants, so it's recommended to throw it away.

2. Reuse your face shield if the plastic shield is visibly dirty. Remember to practice proper cleaning, disinfecting, and hand hygiene before reusing your shield. Check out our previous post, How to Clean Your Face Shield, to learn more.

When should face shields be thrown away, and when can they be reused?

1. Throw away your face shield if the plastic shield has changed its shape. When the shield can no longer maintain its shape, it may not be able to properly shield airborne particles anymore.

2. Reuse your face shield if the plastic shield has been contaminated. Remember to follow proper cleaning, disinfecting, and hang hygiene before reusing a shield. Review our previous posts for details on proper shield cleaning.
